We all thought that they are identical. As a matter of fact, the hub end has the same number of splines. BUT, it is not the same size. So the camry axle will not fit in our 6gen hubs. So after I learned this I figured I would take the inner cv joint apart and put it on my broken st185 axle. The inner pieces on this end are different sizes as well. The shaft is different. And the grooves of the bearing are different. Here's a pic. Guys this really sucks, less availability.

st185 on left,,camry on right
st185 spline hole is bigger. The small spaces between the ball bearing grooves are wider on the st185.

Kuya1284 (Ray Flores) used 1990 Camry V6 outters but he mentioned that he had to get them machined to work. Steve, was the camry outter a little longer than the alltrac?

As far as I know the length of the axles are the same. I'm using ST185 outters.

i thought 91 camry axles work? so u are all just using st185 outer axles?

The lengths are identical, but the splines on both ends are different.

Which makes sense, as every time I've seen this discussed the rule was E153 (Camry V6/MR2T tranny) + Camry V6/MR2T inner shafts + GT4 outer shafts.

The Camry outer axle is thicker and almost 2" longer then the alltrac outer. You could swap the camrys outer CV joint with one from the alltrac, which would give you a longer version of the all-trac axle. I considered doing this, but it just looked too long.

Actually the st185 outer and camry outer are identical in length compressed and extended. The st185 is thicker not the camry outer. The only thing on the camry axle that is thicker is the spline for the hub. Here is the comparison. I doubt you could change the outer cv joint either. Like I said the inners of the cv inner joint are different. I'm guessing that the outers are different as well, but it's possble the outers could be the same. If the outers joints are the same then the length would not change. Look at the picture.

im getting lost again...so what IS the correct combo?!? from what i've read from the past threads its 91 camry outer with mr2t inners (gutta be same year as tranny). and this just occured to me but say u were to use the solara or camry v6 tranny...what inners have to be used???

The inners have to be the same as the tranny. Mr2 turbo tranny must have mr2 turbo axles. As for the years being the same,,,I don't know. I think everyone just speculates about that. The outers, from my experience can only be from a st185. It doesn't matter what year. I think you may also be able to use the st205 outers. Can anyone verify this??? If you use the v-6camry tranny I assume you have to use v-6 camry inners, but you have to use st185 outers(b/c they will fit in the 6g celica hub. Same with the solara tranny. Use the solara inners. Has anyone tried using an mr2 turbo inner axle on a solara tranny. I'd like to know if these inners splines are the same.

The ST205 axles are all one peice, not a 2-piece inner / outer setup.

I have an LSD E153 tranny out of an MR2 with the matching MR2 inners axles and ST185 outers. The drivers side is fine, but the passenger side is too short - it just barely reaches the hub and is way over-extended. I'm looking for the Camry inner to compare to.

The Camry outer I mentioned ealier was the wrong year Camry V6. Autozone goofed....

Hey Steve.

This is going to lead back to the same thing. You use MR2 inners and ST185 outters, and they work. I use MR2 inner and Camry outters, and they work. I don't understand why the camry axel you got didn't fit in your 6gc hub. they fit perfect on mine.

It depends on which year / model Camry outer axle your talking about. I think we need to be more descriptive when talikng about them.

Speaking of which, I cant find any reference to the E153 tranny in the EPC. The Camry V6 is listed with either the E52 or E53 transmissions. The 1992/1993 3VZ came with the E53 trans. Found this page which seems to be fairly accurate: Model Listing

I'm not sure which year Camry outer I had, but it was definately not the right one. The hub-nut looked the same as Steve's - the diameter of the outer CV was too big and the entire length of the shaft was too long.

Sphinx you dont have the LSD tranny right? Mine makes noise taking corners I've heard this is a normal noise but still, cant help but be concerned.

What kind of LSD, supposedly mines TRD LSD which is a clutch type.

Looking into it, I have good reason to believe I have the wrong passenger side axle in, causing an oil leak, i dont know if its causing any damage, because the splines are simply too long, causing a gap.

I have a non-lsd and lsd passenger side MR2 inner axles, they look identical. Are you sure its in all the way? Does the bearing carrier line up?
