it's different wherever you go. Most people say Sell-Eek-Ah. but in the US we like to say Sell-Ik-Ah. however you say it, at least we know we're talking about the same cars

I picked up that pronunciation from English speaking Europeans while watching mid-70's rally footage (I clearly remember the first time hearing this from a video called "An Appointment at Penna", a video of the 1977 Portugal rally, in which a celica finnished 3rd). Definetly interesting to hear a strong emphasis on the L, though, and makes me want to go back to my parent's house and dig out the old VHS recordings! -------------------- Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06

QUOTE(WannabeGT4 @ Oct 25, 2005 - 2:20 PM) It's based on the latin word caelestis meaning: "heavinly", "celestial", or "of the sky" when used as an adjective, or "a god", "dweller in heaven" when used as a noun. So in latin it would be: cha lee ka But it is closer in spelling to the Spanish name Celia which comes from the latin word caelestis so an argument could be made that it should be pronounced with the Spanish pronunciation: Say lee ka Personaly I'm a lazy American so I say Sell ick ah. But I really think it all depends on where you're from and who you talk to. LoL you give the most elaborate explanation and then... like a lazy american, you keep it the same! I say it the same way though |

QUOTE(Borghe @ May 18, 2006 - 11:38 PM) on ITALY, the greater part of persons says CHELLIKA (like in "czech" or "chesterfield"),... Talking about the Italian pronunciation, I'd say it's not CHELLIKA, but it's CHE-LEE-KA... with the "CHE" of "check". -------------------- Wolf_Tm (Parma;Italy) [Silat-Kali]
