I have an oil filter relocation kit because my manifold would otherwise hit the oil filter. The other day, after driving for about 20 minutes on the freeway i see a huge amount of smoke coming from my car. i find that the oil filter kit has cracked where the lower tube pluged into the block. The kit was only a month old. What could have caused this? I don't want it to happen again with my next kit.

The oil lines ran really close too, if not touched the turbo manifold; do you think that could have overheated the oil and built up too much pressure? My oil pressure gauge didn't seem to indicate too much pressure. I assume that the oil would get just as hot at the exhaust anyways, right?

Or, do you think it was defective? Could it have been over tightened? It's strange because i had used the car for a week before and didn't have any problems.

Your input please?? Thanks.

can you take a pic of it and post it. the lines probably touched the manifold or down pipe and burned a hole in the line. I would reroute the lines and put heat protective sheilding sleeves on the lines.

Nope, the metal cracked. I'm pretty sure they are already heat resistant, I'll get pictures when I can.

those cheap relocation adapters are made of cheap cast metal.
they crack pretty easily.
you prolly overtightened the fitting, and the stress of vibrations and heat cycles caused it to crack.
if you want a relocation adapter that WILL NOT crack, try www.cantonracing.com
they have CNC'd adapters.
VERY robust. wink.gif

heat treaded or whatever, no oil lines/ water lines or any lines should be near or touching the manifold/downpipe. re-run them differently, ziptie them outta the way better but dont leave them to rest on the exhaust manifold.

update:
I finally got to work on my car and found that it actually didn't crack, but that i burned through the tube. I'm doing the best i can to reroute the tubes, but its not easy. I just got a 90 deg. elbow though and that should help me out a lot. As for now, i have some insulation that is used for blowtourches between the manifold and the tube, which i think is helping, but i want to do it right and get it out of there completely, so ill put in the elbow tomorrow. wish me luck...
