Intercooler, SRT-4 FMIC Options

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using an srt-4 intercooler or knows of anyone that has. i was looking around and in a previous thread neverstop said that the srt-4 intercooler fits. i never found out how well it worked. i found one on the srtforums for 125 shipped. im wondering if its a good deal or if i might need something bigger. Hopefully goin to do a 2g 3s swap. if you want post where you got your intercooler and what size it is. Any feed back is appreciated.

the SRT4 intercooler WILL NOT WORK...
i've already sized it up and tried it out

on a celica you need side inlet/outlet ports
the srt4 is rear and the pipes would have to come through your radiator/frame

stick with a typical fmic style with sidelets

well i found the thread http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=15930 I dont mind cutting the sheet metal as long as it wont effect anything negativly.im just wondering do you think it would do a good enough job.

well its actually structural parts that i would NOT recommend anyone cut into and damages the integrity of your car.....

actually it doesnt effect anything at all and integrity is not something to do with cutting a piece of sheet metal and i say it wont affect how your car performs.

Any intercooler will work its just a matter of making it work.Street imports makes a great intercooler Mine is 21x9x3 and is plenty big.To big is not good either.Make sure you go with 2" inlet and 2.5" outlet and that should give you enough pressure!3" exhaust from turbo back.My intercooler was $300 usd.

you have to be kidding me saying that cutting a chunk of your SUBFRAME does not compromise integrity....go to engineering school youngass it does there are reasons why your frame is there so leave it there...unless you wanna take responsibilty for when his frame cracks and his car crashes and he dies.....you can go to his mom and tell her you suggested he cut his frame and create a dangerous situation

for gosh sakes people, the srt4 intercooler just isn't a good idea or a needone....you can easily get a good intercooler good pricing and one with side endtanks to fit our applications which is not only safer its EASIER to route your pipes.......have you ever looked at an srt4 intercooler the outlet of it isn't even a circle its an oval type shape for heaven sakes can we say hard to do

it looks like cutting wont be the way to go. its been awhile since i have had the front bumper off. Here is another question. i can prolly get it cheaper than 125 but could i have different end tanks put on it. i really like the way it looks and seems to fit the opening in the stock front becuase thats what im goin to keep. i have an old mitsu starion intercooler in my garage now and i really dont like how it fits so im lookin for another option. its just another question if its dumb tell me so i have to learn some how.

yeah your right cutting the subframe isn't good at all man..just spend a little extra money and get a ebay intercooler or go to the site that they gave you..

hey man i know plenty of people that have a little 3x3 peice cut off and theyre all alive!!! man and actually i am in an engineering academy and guess what a 3x3 piece aint gonna kill ya!!!!!!!and if you do get an intercooler on ebay you probably will have to cut the hole anyway!

of course i had an intercooler fitted on the car and well it was needed to cut that lil hole that wont bug anyone (left side)

ummm then you did it wrong...
pressure2, lagos, nik, and alll the other turbo guys
standard style front mount...went on just fine no holes

Both Nik and Lagos had the same problem with the container. Nik cut it and resealed it. Lagos has it hanging by wires.

yup and that is a perfect way i mean like i said there will always be a need to customize or to do a little cutting and weldin here and there nothing is always perfect and you can most definately cut the little hole for an easier route just tryin to make a good suggestion and i can post up pics of lots of ae86's that have a similar problem and they have all cut that hole no prob at all.

true, but NEVERSTOP cut a lot, looks like a lot more than needed to fit the piping through. Smaller holes would OK for structural integrity.

As for the pass side, cutting is the easiest option if you have a 96+ bumper and want to keep the fogs.
For the driver's side, cutting really isn't nessessary...pic

The hole really arnt that big, I cut out extra so I wouldn't cut into my cuplers during install or afterwords if there was any flex in the IC pipes. I was carful to only cut the sheet metal and not the ends where there is the stronger renforced metal structure

Not tryin to argue with ya playr but I gotta disagree with ya on this one I don't think it affects the structual integraty (sp? ) at all... or at least enuf to make a difference, I say this because I rearend someone after mounting the intercooler in there and that area was perfectly fine after the crash and still is. I also shaved off about 6' of intercooler piping using the SRT4 intercooler. the only down fall is the oval shapped inlet, its also at a wierd angle but it worked perfectly for me on the exhaust side of the intercooler. just had to relocate some stuff to make it work. I would suggest the SRT4 intercooler for two main reasons:

1: it was made by a MAJOR automotive company, or at least subcontracted.. ether way you know it's produced to at least semi high standards

2: it reduces the amount of piping needed by almost HALF - and thats a great benift! I will snap a few pics of how I intend to run the piping on the celi here pretty soon if I can get the digi to work right.... otherwise here are some pics of the install of the srt4 intercooler

there are other benifits to the SRT4 intercooler like being able to keep the stock foglights (some cutting required on brackets though), plus it fits into the stock 96+ bumper nicely, did have to trim a little and I removed the TEETH of the grill it improve looks but that took under 30mins to do, overall about a 4 on install difficulty

as for the ebay bar and fin type intercoolers... I had one and while it was not a bad intercooler by any means, it wasnt really what I had expected quality wise when I got mine, the finish was terrible on it and the fins where pretty weak. but thats just my opinon on it

This is the opening on the cold side/driver side. I did have an issue with the AC canister, it was easily relocated a few inches back. However I have now decided I am just gonna remove the AC system all together, I never really use it and hell I'll pick up a few extra HP with it gone


This is the AC canister post relocation... I think would have to double check its been a while since I moved it but pretty sure it used to mount into the other hole you can see a few inches to the right
