I know allll about the differences in the two in terms of power, but which engine is overall more reliable? Which has more avaliable mods, cheaper mods, and responds better to mods?

I mean, if I bought an ST with the 7A-FE or a GT with the 5S-FE, and spent $600 in performance, which would end up being the faster motor?

Thanks.

i would think the 5sfe...i would think that the faster stock motor will always be the faster car if the same amt of money is put into it...but i could be wrong.

i have a 96 ST coupe and a in the process of buying a 97 GT hatchbak smile.gif the GT standard is so much faster than the ST auto. so i would imagine you would want to build on an already faster motor.

If I could do it all over again (I will if I can find a 96+ GT(S) 5Spd in Silver w/Black Leather interior), I would go to Canada and buy me a GT-S for the sake of having a GT-S.

on par, the GT will always out perform the ST.

1) The GT have a greater engine displacement
2) That implies more HP and most of all Torque

I do not know if the gearing is the same or there both uses the same tranny

But the GT maybe heavier that the ST but make this up for HP

The GT would be the better model to get due to other like cosmetic and other few changes.

eg, the GT have rear disc brakes, maybe bigger brakes and maybe all manual trans.'

The GT and ST member would be able to go into the nitty gritty of the two cars

With 600 bucks, I wouldn't expect anything great out of any motor.

the gt has an "s" series motor so if and when you get the 3s-gte then it will be less expensive to swap that in.

2.2L will always respond better to mods than a 1.8L

That's exactly what I would have said.

u mean the 6g ST 1.8 L right?
cuz the 7g 1.8 L puts out 180 HP and i dont know of many 2.2L engines that beat that

7g engine is diff. from 6g.

6g st = 135 or so.

even so brother, the 7g are slow and discussing.

a 4age 20v black top 1600cc make 165HP and in mod form, 180+hp very comfortable.

6g ST = 115 hp

6g GT = 135 hp

both are slow, take your pick

also 4AGE 20v might be rated at 165 but it doesn't make that. I know you have a car with the engine yadda yadda, but its been shown over and over that Toyota Japan overrated the engine by a good 15 - 20 hp.

Now that's assuming you go with the stock tranny tongue.gif ...If you want to race it...haha nah I agree though...the ST takes too much fabrication, as in the mounts are diff.

As stated before...600 dollars in mods won't get you ****...lol...save your money man.

165hp at the fylywheel

It is correct.

Either way, in stock trim, the car is slightly dead until the mods starts.

As for the 4age- The silvertop is worthless. It's just marginally faster ina n ST than a stock GT. The blakc top is an evil machine though.

The 4agze is also a different story. From what I've read on different pages, It has about as much potential as does the 3s. It's only problem is low displacement.

........and the ST is lighter, as is the 4a as opposed to the 3s.
