WHICH would you do?
and why would you do it?

would you

a) build and turbo a 7afe from the internals on up

or

b) swap in a 4age black top 6spd factory lsd

7afe turbo will make more power. 4ag will be the better trackish engine but will have less torque and right foot 'smile' value.... but you would have a 4ag.

depends on what you want out of the car.

I personally would prefer the performance engine, 4AGE, so that I could track the car and run it hard....day in and day out, everyday. Definately the better choice in my opinion, but if youre a turbo lover which i know you are dan...lol...then the choice is up to you.

im in the same dilemma as you. ive considered a lot of options, including 4agze and 3sgte as well, and im almost positive im going to go with 7afte. it depends on what your after, i personally dont care for it to be that fast, and im going to be mostly street driving, so i want the low end torque. plus itd be easier for me to install myself. my engine also only has 44k on it should be in good condition for a boost setup. if i had a higher mileage engine i might lean towards swap. another reason for 7afte is that i decided itd be nice to keep the auto, and after watching oobe's car thats plenty fast for me. im also a sucker for new parts, im weird but id rather pay more for new stuff rather than used. doggy's and nik's results also leaned me towards 7afte. whatever you decide on, its definately better than stock smile.gif

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

indeed i am a boost addict
(my jetta is already up to 15psi wink.gif )

7agte nik you the man there
coomer has a silver top
and someone has a 4agze

i could on paper build a 7afte to a point of over 225whp
practically i'd like to it would be a rare piece
the 4age black top not been done very rare and i would like something the rest of everyone else does not have

Black top. Definitely. I would think there would be less matainence issues with it as well, but to get parts for repair and such would be mighty expensive. I see +'s and -'s with each engine, but in the end, I'd go with the Black top. Good luck Dan.

I would go with the blacktop and you could turbo it later on, cause its not running on an annoying AFM sensor, but then again the internals aren't that great as the Silvertop's. If you just wanted a cheap way of getting power by all means just get the turbo. You would spend just about the same amount of money either way.

They both cost a similar amount, so here's a good way to decide:

If you're going to be happy with around 180hp, go with the turbo.

If you're going to be happy with around 170hp but you want more than 200 down the road sometime, get the blacktop, because it can be upgraded more.

But both are quite inferior to the 3SGTE.
