I was driving my car down 17-92...came to a stop light, went to put in gear and it wouldn't go...tried revving and going into gear that way...wouldn't budge...A guy was cool enough to tow my car to a parking lot...as I was sitting there waiting on my brother I was playing with the gears...it would go into gear with the car off...so I tried starting it in gear...and it di died in first..so I tried 2nd...and she started to pull forward with the clutch pedal all the way in...so I gave it gas..and I could go forward...but I can not shift gears while the car is on...so I decided to ride the car home in 3rd...anyways...I can't understand why it's doing that...
Is it possible it's the syncros? Or is it just the clutch? Cuz it was pulling the car with the clutch all the way in... Mind you I haven't driven this car hard...I've only put 30 miles on it...So my mechanic is getting a visit tomorrow So my question is...anyone have any idea why it's doing this??? |

dude, i would say that your clutch is gone, i had the EXACT same experience when my clutch went out on my car, except when i started my car in gear it was really jerky like, was it the same way for you? cause i guess it could be that you have no fluid in your reservoir, or that you might have air in the system, but i doubt that. i would say that your clutch is gone.

Yah it was really jerky untill I got moving..then it would occassionally jerk (I could only stay in the gear I started in..unless I grinded gears lol)....The thing is though...it's a brand new clutch, ACT 6 puck...so maybe my mechanic effed it up?

Well there are some questions u should ask urself, how high was the clutch in the first place. The closer ur clutch is to wearing out the higher on the pedal it engages. if it engages while the pedal is still pretty low, then its relatively new, if the pedal is almost all the way up, ur clutch is going to need replacing soon. Secondly, ur clutch probably isnt just going to go, all at once. It'll start to slip. This can be described as, ur car starts going from 3000rpm, to 5000rpms, and ur speed doesnt increase. If that starts to happen, park it soon cuz u'll be stuck. What ur describing sounds more like ur slave cylinder is gone. When u cant get it into gear. See what ur mechanic says.

Any car is going to be jerky if u started it in gear - DUH. The ONLY reason u would have to start the car in gear, is if ur clutch has already waved by by and u gotta move it. -------------------- |

If I have the car and gear and start it (when working properly)...it's not jerky...If you put the clutch pedal to the floor...start the car...the clutch is disengaged...if you don't have it enaged...then it's going to jump...no shiznit...and the clutch is brand new...(I know you're trying to say that if it was burned out it would be acting differently) When I'm driving the car in gear...if I push the pedal to the floor...it does not disengage the clutch...so if I come to a complete stop then the car jumps then cuts off (obviously) Thanks for the info fellas. |

I think im confused by what ur saying. If u have ur car in gear, and the clutch is up, its going to jump, if its down, it wont cuz its disengaged. What ur saying is like the clutch is gone, but its weird that u didnt kno it was slipping or if it started to at all. Oh well get a new clutch - not cheap.

...If you put the car in gear...and push the clutch to the floor...then start the car...under NORMAL cirumstances (when the car is working right) it's not going to jump...Nevermind this isn't going anywhere...I think it's the clutch or slave cylinder. |

Yeah if it wasnt slipping, sounds more like a slave cylinder, but it could be a combo - good luck

i was always told that its a good thing top always replace the slave cylinder every time you replace a clutch or put one in.
