Cliff, hate to say this, but if you cut your roof off its going to be real bad for the frame. If you want a vert go buy one and then fix it up.

Yeah in the long run its a bad idea, or an expensive one.

i was thinkin of doing a targa but wasnt sure and thinkin a conv. on a hard top and cap everything off would be sick.also there is a conversion place that toyota canada uses to convert the hard top solara's to convertible. cuz when they come from japan they are hard tops ...so im waiting for a call back on it and hopefully there is no difference

don't do a convertible. it will ruin the car. if you didn't have it modified it would probably be ok, but i wouldn't.

also, remember that the convertibles are coupes! and solaras are as well... if you have a hatch, you'd basically have to turn it into a coupe as well as do the roof.

targa will mess up your frame too, but it's much more doable.

other than the reenforced A-frame to act as a roll bar, there isn't anything different about the coupes and convertables, a hatchback would be harder, but you could probably make t-tops pretty easily

yea, T-tops wouldnt be AS bad, but you would get quite a bit of frame twist going through turns at decent speeds.

ttops and/or a targa will run you about 5 grand in labor, that's not counting the parts and paint.
