Actually, its has 200 hp, stock. That's the BEAMS version of the 3SGE. Could be considered the 4th gen 3SGE. I did buy it from JMI (JapanMotorImports). Good people, just getting into toyota engines. Apparently, it's been sitting in their warehouse for months, new guy came in, saw it, posted about it. I'm gonna pay him 1550 for it. Was going to be 1600, but there's a dent in one of the intake runners. It also comes with the tranny that it had. Don't know if it's the E56 or the S54. |

That's a sweet engine! They're pretty rare engines and your car will be awesome with that inside of it.

[rant] no offense man, but don't open your mouth if you don't know what your talking about. there are people who are actually trying to learn something on these forums and misinformation, like what was said above, only serves to confuse them. and to correct, the BEAMS 3SGE was never used in the Curren. it was used primarily in the SSIII, N/A MR2 and TOYOTA Altezza. and the power rating as stated by Rivo was 200 not 170 hp. oh, and its not at all like a 3SGTE w/o a turbo, it has VVTI [/rant] |

gh0st_d0g, do not forget the Celica SII, Caldina, Carina
All beams are rated over 180HP. The lastest 210 hp to be exact @ the flywheel use VVT-i on both cams The 3SGTE is very old engine with no such new technology to it. It is rumor that the 8th gen celica will have a more up to date 3sgte with all the find works like the 2J-GTE. I do hope that there add VVTi-L to both the intake & exhaust cams. Hey coomer! Not that rare! The problem is you have to import them. Once legal, import them is not a problem. You have England, New Zealand, Australia and a few other places. But I can see where you are coming from -------------------- West_Minist

The 4th gen beams 3s-ge is 200hp for the red top and 210 for the black top. The black top came with a 6 speed tranny and the red top came with a 5 speed tranny. You can't use the tranny that came with the motor because is an rear drive tranny.

Actually, I can use this tranny, because it came from a SSIII celica, FWD. The engine was an option in the Altezza, and that would be bad considering it is a RWD car. And when did it come in the SSII? The engine itself came out in like 98/99 and only in japan, and I did not think it was still the SSII in that time. It is rather rare here West. I've contacted several engine importers and all of them say the same thing. they can't find it, they have people on a waiting list for it, and they don't know when they'll have more. I'm just happy to have found one with it's tranny. If anybody knows of aftermarket clutches for either the E56 or S54 trannies (the tranny that the 3sge uses), that'd be most appreciative.

Ok. I just had alot type up and the damn post did not go through. Damn The 98-99 3SGE came in Celica SII/SIII while the 99-00 in the Altezza and Caldina The 99-00 have VVT-i by the looks of it. Note if the blacktop has vvt-i only (a waste in my opinion) to give it that extra 10hp @ flywheel, then added a slightly mild came would make up for that all around and may work better than the blacktop. If it had VVTL-i, that would be a different story altogether. All the 3SGE should bolt up the same way to the tranny. But note here, the slight increase in HP is wasted down the RWD drive train. So no really gain here. So Rivo, do not bother to much if you have the red top. You have the cc and slap on some 60+mm TB and a nice rebore and some high compression pistons back to 11:5, and you will be cruising (of course w/ aftermarket computer, which you have) and you be blazing. Later on drop the compression and some forge piston and add a turbo and ooh yea! You ever see any 4AGE 20v silver top turbocharge with stock head? Mad isn't it! When the VVT-i kicks in, your mouth drops, no traction if you have small tires (205) Visit sites such as fensport.com. hksusa.com, junauto.com or junusa.com (I think) Check out the famous clutch makers for parts for you model Do searchs such as ST202 Clutches. I will search in the mean time I do not know if the clutch in the 3SGE will be the same in the 3SGTE in the MR2. The guys here doing the swaps can help you on this one. The blacktop had a few changes to the head which gave it the extra 10 horsies. Titanium valves and the higher compression up to 11.5. I tried fensport for clutches, but they just have OEM ones. I won't add a turbo later, because I want the N/A feel. The constant power. With that in mind, I want to get (later on) the supercharger that some shop in the UK made for a 3sge. Saw it on celicaclub.uk site. Good times.

Didn't the red top run 11:5? Ok.
But you really cannot say to. The engine will rev a little easier and last longer. But the main power gain came from the vvt-i Well, supercharge if you have to, but consider it first if you are looking for all out performance? Assuming normal vvt-i, it is not a normal n/a feeling I have never driven a 3sge, but the 4age 20v silver and black are dead down bottom until at top where there is a rush. Either way!! Oh sorry!!, www.todaracing.com have them. There have a clutch kit. Very good. Also in JGTC. http://www.todaracing.com/products/toyota/...a/flywheel.html Give them a call on monday or email them. Very nice people. I do not know if there is a distributor where you live, but ask them http://www.todaracing.com/about/dealers.html Official North American Distributor AKH Trading 130 McCormick Avenue, Suite 107 Costa Mesa, CA 92626 USA Tel: 714-327-0181 Fax: 714-327-0184 E-mail: toda@todaracing.com This post has been edited by west_minist: May 10, 2003 - 7:48 PM -------------------- West_Minist

Coolio, thanks for the site. I'll get ahold of them on monday. Now, to say that VVT-i is the non N/A feel, that's wrong. VVT-i does nothing but control oil pressure in the valves and whatnot. What you're talking about would be VVTL-i. The lift that comes with the 7th gen celica GTS comes from a secondary cam profile that kicks in about 6000 rpm. I believe that's what you're talking about. The BEAMS still has the N/A feeling and not theVVTL-i. The redtop has 11:0 comp.

As I stated, vvt-i which changes the cam timing and not lift like the vvtl-i is not really a n/a feeling in a sense that you are relating to about turbochargers.
If you get a nice turbo charger, you do not feel any difference. As I stated to you, I have driven the 4age 20 w/ vvt-i. So I know what I am talking about. Th latest beam has that. Read about VVT-i again, It does not changes vavles, but the timing of the cam like a auto cam gear. VVTL-i is VVT-i with lift control which changes the cam lift profile. EG, make a small duration cam, a big cam. -------------------- West_Minist
