So after my break in, the insurance company said they would replace the aftermarket gauges that were stolen. I had cheapo ebay ones, so now i can get ones a little bit better. Nothing expensive though, like greddy or defi, but rather something more like Autometer. I like ones with white faces so they match my gauge cluster, but i cant find ones that have white faces and dont have a super annoying light display. So these are the ones im thinking:

Autometer Phantom, but i dont know how the night illumination looks like

VDO millenium series

Any experience or thoughts on any of htese would be helpful

some autometer are fine but I had problems with two of mine and others have had problems as well. Buyer beware.

Greddy are not that expensive. Kind of between the price of cheapos and really expensive ones but they are very good performers from everything I have read.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I have motorsport gauges. They look really good and I haven't had any problems with them yet. Plus there pretty decent in price if you get them off of ebay in a set of 3.

i would love to get Defi's, but like i said, the insurance is only giving me $500 for everything. With replacing the LCD screen at $250, the lotek pod at $50, that leaves $200 for the gauges. And since Defi's are around $200 a gauge, i have to go cheaper.

I say put the $250 in the bank until you are ready to modify the car in a way that will compel your purchase of aftermarket guages. As it sits, they are just expensive toys that you don't need.

i have the phantoms, cheapo gauges, but i have had zero problems with mine.
dustin hooked me up with some blue leds to light them, and they work well.

i have autometer phantoms too. after a while the boost gauge would read 2 psi with the car off and the oil pressure gauge would read to low. took the gauges apart and fixed them and they seem to be working fine since then .

if i had to buy them again, i would probably buy greddy gauges. they have the best qualty to price ratio. defi just cost way too much to put into a celica.
