There was another post like this one, but not really.
My car was doing just fine when I was driving, then all of a sudden at the light, my rpms dropped, and the car turned off. I turned it back on, and kinda stepped on it so that the rpms wouldnt drop, but then it started jerking, every couple of seconds, then it was ok until I got home and was parking then the rpms dropped again, and now my car doesnt want to start at all.
Could it be my fuel filter or something?

how can I check for codes if the car wont even turn on???
I havent really had a real "tune up" but Ive changed like the spark plugs and always keep up with oil and crap like that.

ok now my cars turning on, but as soon as it turns on the rpms raise really high, and then they drop all the way down and it turns off again.
It doesnt even give me a chance to gas it, cuz when the car turns on I step on the gas a little and its like its not even responding to the gas

i've done it - but don't remember the details - i remember there being like 2 nuts or bolts to unscrew from the fuel line - remove old - put in new - tighten - it was like a 15 minute job - wasn't hard - but i remember there being something i had to do before i took it out - remove battery terminals i think

You need two wrenches for the bottom fitting. A 14 and a 10 I think. I could be wrong... that part you can figure out easily. Hold the filter piece with the 14 (you'll see where the filter has a "mock bolt" so you can get a hold of it with a wrench) and turn the 10 the opposite way from what you would think (it's upside down remember). The top fitting is a banjo bolt. Get a 14 socket and take it out. But be sure you have a reallly good hold on the filter before you start wrenching... you don't want to bend any of your fuel lines.

It's an easy job but because of the space restrictions it is time consuming. Make sure that when you put your new filter in you use thread lock on the bottom fitting and get it on tight... it will leak otherwise. And that is a definate NO-NO!

Good luck.

That fuel filter is a Bitc* you will need some flare nut wrenches *Metric* type or was it Standards??
Anyways you will also need a wrench to hold the top bolt and loosen the bottom bolt with the flare wrench.

Than take a screwdriver or some type of flat metal and pry the two wrencehs . Thats the only way to do it and when you tighten it you must use both hands and turn in the opposite way in order to tighten it enough not to leak gas.

I attempted it like 5 times and finally got it out on the 6. Make sure you spray some WD-40 on the bolts to make the job eaiser too.

So does that mean that mines is fine??
How much did your bottom bolt screw in before it wouldnt go anymore?
I have like a big gap and it doesnt want to go anymore, and I was thinking, they just gave me a bad filter confused.gif
so did you really have to force it on, I already called the parts store and they said they would have more by thursday, and I really dont want to wait that long, so Im wondering if theyre all like that?

If your really having alot of trouble getting that fuel filter off (which is probably your problem) you could always do what i did to make the job easier. Take your driver side wheel off, then take the driver side mud guard off, then the driver side fender. Sounds like alot but the whole job only took me about 30 minutes. Thats not long at all when put in comparison.

I have found it to be easier to start the bottom line b4 bolting down the filter, lets them line up easier. you may also want to check to see if the threads on the new one and/or the line are OK, could have a problem there,,,

EDIT: Also the bottom fitting is a flare fitting, the nut shouldn't bottom out, as long as it went in more than 3-4 turns it should be holding the flared end of the line against the rounded seat in the new filter, once tight, the filter shouldn't move or be loose in relation to the line itself .
