LoL... first you want one and act all interested... then when one's available... you can't have it and give up on it. Says how much people think realistically about swaps and mods...

dude, im seriously thinking about it, but when u were 18, could u even afford one? its not as easy as, "heres the cash, and look i have a sick engine in the car." theres time to put it in and other stuff. And for me theres putting it in and my 'rents hating the fact that its gonna be half the totall value of my car. (cars worth 6K, beams motor and tranny are 3K) If i can get by them, then im gonna get it. -------------------- Kawi Love |

Your statement makes perfect sense... and you should think about applying it to yourself. There are vast differences between want and need. However... you cannot compare yourself to me... unless you know me. ;] I've been doing this stuff for the better part of 10 years. I started working on cars as soon as I could turn a wrench. I've been through the race schools, raced for several years... but now I drive a totally stock car and have little plans for the future (car-wise). What I "want" and what I "need" are two different things. Sure I wouldn't mine (want, even) having a BEAMS 3SGE under the hood... but what I need is a good running engine getting 32-38 mpg... Also... when I was 18... I had several cars... kinda like now... =P -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

The black top pushes more of 210-220 I agree with you kwanza, it does come down to "want and needs". Take care of the needs and get ahead in life, then worry about the wants. I want either the beams or the 3s-gte but I'm gonna wait till the wife and I have a few more things paid off. -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |

The redtop makes 200ps... which is roughly 195-197hp. The blacktop makes 210 ps... which is roughly 200-205hp...

So if i swap the motor i plan on it hiking up even more...around 5000 to 6000 a year, and my parents will be pissed, and make me pay the diff....so i have to think long term...plus im toying with a curren front clip conversion...so idk well see.

oh, since only one person said where to findone i'll try to help out too.
I would try asking shop that sell the 3s-gte and other imported motors. If they didn't have one on stock then I'm sure if you were serious about getting it then they would find one for ya. -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |

Unless you told your insurance company that the car was much faster than stock, I dont think your insurance will go up. Either way, do you really think they will care or know what you're talking about if you told them you put in a redtop BEAMS 3SGE motor? Probably not. Best just to keep it on the downlow just like every other swapper.
Also be sure to think realisticly. Unless you have the money, means to get it installed, are mechanicly inclined and educated in what youre looking at and will go to any lengths to learn about what it is you're doing and then have the resolve to do it......you may want to reconsider for now. I know when I was 18 I had all kinds of fantasies of what I would do with the Celica. Then I got older and realized that theres a difference between what I dream about doing and what I'll actually be able to do. So just do lots and lots of research and save your $$ and it will happen in due time if it was meant to. Just trying to share my experiences since I've been in the same boat before. I do appericate all the insight.....any kind of insight is better then non at all.
Im looking into the Curren conversion for sale on celicatech.com...so the beams might (most likly) will go on the back burner for a bit (year or so) and ill do the curren then come back to it. -------------------- Kawi Love |

dude you need a new insurance company, that's crazy. I could drive a brand new Corvette with $100 deductibles and not be anywhere near that much. And plus, you're 18. Save your $3000 to put into a nice apartment or house to live in. I wish I would have saed more money when I was 18. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
