US importing laws?, what about importing a GT-4? Options

Hey,
I'm assuming that its illegal to import a GT-4 to the US, because no one seems to have them. What are the laws on something like this, and is there any way you can get around it? I was thinking about doing the engine swap, but I'd rather just pay $15k-20K and get a real GT-4. What are the laws on this?

its legal if you add smog equipment to it and pay for it to get checked out to see if it passes. then if it does, a vin will be asigned to it and you can register it and insure it as a 2door 4 seater i4 car.

but that is said in the most simple way. the best thing you could do it go to the local dmv and ask but make sure you say it is only one car and for you otherwise they might tell you about crash testing which is not required if you are importing for yourself

cool. Thanks man. YOu know if a GT-4 will ever pass a CA smog test? Or is it like snowball's chance in hell?

it will pass the actuall test

but the visual part it wont pass, because it lacks an egr and cat but since any gt4 you will be getting is old and will have miles on it you will be given lee-way(sp?) in the actual amounts of pollution it puts out

you will still need to install an egr and cat
