turbo? what engine does that thing have?

i dunno but i know those things r really hard to find, i havent done alot of research on those but my dad had a 73 hilux he said it was the 18r and the 80s had the 20r or 22r,
i dunno if they just turboed those or its something else...its not a big turbo though, still only 135 hp

I know the later ones have a 22r's and 22re's (carb and fuel injection) the 3rd gen celica also has the 22re. still, it'd be cool to have a toyota factory turboed one of those, cause then it's reliable and built for turbo so you could make it powerful! biggrin.gif

there turbo 22rte's C20 single entry turbo, they only had liek 135hp but IIRC correctly they have surprising torque (250ish ftlb)

searching for #'s and a thread on a 22rte ct20 to ct26 single entry ct26 swap i read about eariler this year

edit: can not find the post, but it was by far one of the most indepth threads ive seen on a turbo swap. it was probally longer then presure2's 5sf'T'e thread

turbo? what engine does that thing have?

Here is some Toyota 4X4 history for you, 1979 first year for 4WD 20R carborated 4speed, 1981 22R introduced 1983 5 Speed Introduced. So 1979-1983= 1st gen.
1984 Came out with the 2nd Gen truck that was also avalible in XtraCab, also was the first year 4Runner 1985 Introduced EFI known as 22RE, ran better than carb but still sucked in horsepower.
1979-1985 Trucks/ 1984-1985 4Runner had the Solid Front Axle. In 1986 they introduced the IFS was a lot smother ride but sucked for 4wheeling and had "toyota creeks" the sound coming from the torsen bars.
1986 also was the first year for the automatic option.
1986 was also the introduction of Turbo on the 22R known as 22RTE was a better inprovment but was shortly lived from 1986-1987.
1988 Introduction of the 3VZ-FE V6 the engine that killed the turbo option and the last year for the 2nd gen 4wd truck.
1989 3rd gen truck and last year of the 1st gen 4Runner.
The 1986-1987 Turbo option had the stronger 5speed with lower 1st gear in the regular cab. The XtraCab Turbo came with automatic

This is my daily driver. 1994 Honda Civic EX. The first picture is when I bought her back in August of 2006 (with some minor changes), and the second picture is what she looks like today. When I bought the car, it had been in an accident, and the previous owner tried piecing her back together, hence the black fenders and hood. The car had a bo...bo....bodykit (whew, that took a bit to get that out) on it which HAD to go!!! The black 17s came on the car, but with factory suspension. I lowered it (handeled like a tank with stock suspension) and ditched the 17's. Slowly been a 2nd project along with my Celica.

That would be sik, yet at the moment i'm strictly using funds to get the car ready for the road (tires, and paint mostly).

I appreciate the offer though, and might hit you up at some point in the near future.

86 was the IFS. it does make noise when turning sharp
they are also expensive and a pain in the a$$ to lift.
I run 32" BFG all terrainKOs on stock height with very little rub, and it does fine off road.
Although hardcore offroaders would argue straight axle is the way to go,
and for articulation, with serious suspension mods I would agree.
My 87 with IFS will still kick the crap out of any domestic with stock ride
offroad, power wise my stock 22R is a slug. (4L ftw) I am a rare case
of an 87 with a carb.

Here's my new beater eyesore...$880 and it runs like a champ. 70 horsepower 1.5 liter motor (great mileage and not actually as slow as you'd think because it's so light), 4-speed manual, just has some rust issues and I think the motor mounts need work. I bought it so I can drive to Yakima and back to work on my '92 Civic sedan project...once that's done I plan to get rid of this.

Look at all that rust, lol.

Ugly blue interior. At least I won't have to worry about it because I just don't care.

Best part of the car is I can easily fit a couple bikes in the back. smile.gif
