It was off the road for about 5 months, because I: A: made sure to fix every dent, stone chip etc. B: Pulled the car completely to bits to paint... almost everywher C: Never knew anything about panel beating/painting etc. before I started. ![]() My engine rebuild is a bit the same, I'm taking it slow, going to be triple checking everything, making sure everything is meticulously clean, etc. etc. Its a bit of a daunting project though, biggest thing that Ive done before this is.... Well I dont even know. Just heaps of little jobs, nothing this major before! But it will be an exciting learning experience. QUOTE(Silver94CelicaOwner @ Dec 7, 2005 - 9:17 PM) These BEAMS motors looks like an absolute blast....I love the sound and power delivery of a high revving N/A motor just as much if not more than i like turbo. ![]() Good luck with the build, i want to see some videos of that in action when its all done. ![]() Yeah, it should be heaps of fun. Ive spent quite a bit so far, and at times Ive wondered why I didnt just get a turbo, but hopefully the results will be worth it. ![]() At times I think... "Hell yeah! NA rules!" and at other times I think "Doh! should have got a turbo motor. ![]() But its too late to change my mind now, its been too long in the making to back out now. ![]() And yes, the sound of exposed quad throttles at 8000rpm is just damn sexy. Not that Ive got exposed quad throttles, but you know what I mean. im just curious, do you have a 6g? only 6g owners are allowed on this forum you know... but i guess a beams owner is ok i guess lol

I think there is an owner here with Beams VVTi (SS3) and he had the 197whp....anyway the engine has the potential for this kind of power so dont worry.
maikl cannot join the internet so often but if you need to ask him anythim pm so i can give you his phone number.. Did you seen my post for the Beams Exhaust Manifold by Beams? ![]() http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...xhaust+manifold ![]() |

Yeah, thats a nice looking exhaust manifold!
I'd be keen, but Ive already got a set of what are alledgedly TOMS extractors. I cant confirm that they are, but they definitely arent the factory extractors! One thing that I DONT have... is the factory intake piping. Ive only got up until the throttle body, and thats it. I need to mount my AFM somewhere. I see on Outsiders engine, that he has an HKS adapter for his AFM. Does anyone know where I can get one of these? It looks like exactly what I need! Higher compression ratio gives you better economy, and also more power!
However the downside is that the higher the compression ratio, the higher the octane of gas that you need to use. The highest compression ratio that you would really want to run on high octane pump gas (98 octane) would be 11:1 or maybe 11.5:1, 12:1 if you are brave. You would have to run a 13:1 compression ratio engine on race gas, or it would destroy itself very very quickly. ![]() |

Wow, 195whp?! Do you know what mods were done? I say 185whp, because I want to be realistic about the gains. A lot of people think "Sweet, 15hp with a pod filter on" I think 180hp at the wheels should be the minimum, and I'd be happy with that. Any more, and I'd be really happy. ![]() -------------------- 351.5bhp RWD TT

QUOTE(crismillencolin @ Dec 19, 2005 - 8:35 PM) ![]() First of all, if you take a look over there <--------- You will notice that I'm not American. ![]() New Zealand is the land of Japanese hand me downs, probably 90% of the cars on our roads are jap imports. That we get really cheap, being so close to Japan. The 178hp engine is the gen 3 3sge, and is the amount of power that the car makes at the FLYWHEEL. approx. 15% of this power is lost through the transmission, as it takes power to turn the gears, run the pumps, alternator, etc. So when I say that I hope for 180 wheel hp, this would be about 210hp at the flywheel. ![]() Yes it is a lot of work for not a huge amount of power, but half of the point of this project is to increase my knowledge, and have a fun project to do. As well as the fact that the redtop has a broader spread of power thanks to the VVTI, so even if it made only 178hp, it would still be notably faster than a gen 3 engine. I wouldnt be surprised to see more than 180whp, but Im trying not to be too optimistic, as a lot of people tend to be, and end up very dissapointed when they get to the dyno.
