After thinking for a while now I am dissatisfied with the celi with the 4age engine. There are just so many cars out there that can perform so much better and go so much faster. Maybe its just me and maybe its just my crappy tuning that sucked cause my car won't go any faster, but after a while. I'm begining to think that I should have never got into the Modding scene in the first place. There is no prize and there is no trophy for beating your rivals on the streets and there is no Reputation to keep when your ride gets totaled.
So basically, for those of you starting out your Modding career in the car world, keep this in mind. A stock car came in like crap to begin with, when you start out adjusting every feature in the stock car to make it look different and perform different from the rest. Your just pooring more and more cash into a car that would probbaly turn out to be different at the end and end up as something that could never quench your thirst. If you want a fast car, get one to begin with and then start modding from there. In the end, the time you waste and the efforts and money you put in will pay off. If you start with a slow car, nothing will change unless you have deep pockets. The Celica 6Gen is just not worth it to Modd nor any other cars that came in N/A with a Slow A** engine. |

I totally disagree..... Tuning and modding a car defines you. It shows the world and yourself who the real "you" is. It's not about money.... Sure there are other things you coulda done with that money, but just think of everything you learn while you are working on your car..... It's amazing.... Also, our cars aren't meant for speed from the factory, and thats where the 3sgte, 3sge, among other engines come into play. Many "pioneers" are here to help with everything and make things go smoothly, our car has amazing potential.... All it takes is the desire to make it done correctly. If I wreck my car, then so what? Sure it's nice now, but it's only a metal object.... So while the car is there make it different from everyone else if that is how you are defined..... but dont become a little upset and trash everyone elses dreams or goals.

I actually agree with Soul Shadow IF your goals are just to have and drive a fast car. For some of us, the process of selecting the modifications and seeing them through to completion is a hobby which we enjoy. Hobbies cost money and this one is certainly not cheap. Maybe I should get into stamp collecting? Nah.........I will stick to forced induction .

Soulshadow, I agree with you to a point.
Modding my car is a hobby to myself. I'm not here to impress anyone. It's mostly for myself, it makes me happy to work and mod my celi. I think, as with most hobbies, it requires money, even "deep" pockets: Golf, skiing, mountain biking, computer gaming... whatever. |

I am a 16 year old that just started out in the so called "moding world". I love it i can use the knowledge that i learn over the years and start a carer in theautomotive industry.
So i agree and disagree if you are getting into cars b/c of fast and the ferious **** then no you shouldnt start but if you truly love cars and want to take it up as a hobby then yes you should get into it. Like the others have said its YOUR car and YOUR modifications it tells others on what you like. And whats wrong with the satisfation that you can beat up on other "tunners" on the streets it shows that you love your car and you put time and money into it. I think its your choice you shouldnt try and change the views or ideas so what you have bad luck with cars(lol) that dosnt mean you should discourage others that are interested. |

here is a thought if you don't like it....
sell it and be done with it thank you! oh and i wouldn't blame the car for being slow and stuff...its just you A) don't have enough money or didn't use it wisely or b) made wrong decisions and therefor don't benfit from a good one This post has been edited by playr158: Dec 5, 2005 - 2:17 PM |

This is a question i have asked myself and my freind who spent $10,000 modding his car, i also spent $2,000 on my old car that could only had 90bhp.
So I bought a car i know i was going to keep for years (celica) then slowly have started to mod it. Im starting of with a car that looks nice and has 173bhp. And ive seen first hand at a cruise this car modded to hell and it was the car of the cruise. You name it, it had it! Thats why i bought the celica. Also dont you ever look at some crappy cars like a corsa or a saxo and think that they are a crap car. i bought my celica for the same if not less then them. Its faster, it looks a hell of a lot better and cos its older and costed less its lower on insurance (also remember when celica first came out it was 24,000 pounds). Thats what i think!! Other the pond in the UK there are like 100-1000 saxos to 1 celica maybe more. And then how many of those celica do i see modded?? very few. (Well i see one modded daily ) This post has been edited by Nigel: Dec 5, 2005 - 2:46 PM -------------------- |

I don't know guys. I mean, I've been on here for maybe 2 years now, but soulshadow is right. This is pointless. There is no prize and I don't think I'll ever be the best or have the fastest car or anything. I'm thinking I should sell the Celi and get me something like a hatchback Civic with a Type R motor in it. Lmao. Yeah riiiiiight! Until I can afford a car that's "fast from the factory", I'm staying with the Celi. My plans are to keep the Celi forever. I have so much pride in that car that I want to show my kids and everything. So if you can afford a fast factory car then go for it. Porsche, Ferrari, whatever it is, that'd be nice. I would love to do that. But I can't because I'm only 18 and don't have as much money as I wish I did. I'd rather have my Celi that girls think looks "real nice" "hot" "fast" "like a supra" whatever. lol. I'd rather have that than a rice machine that can do 10 seconds in a 1/4 mile.

Well Soulshadow all i have to say is that maybe you should have put more thought into you car before modding it. If you wanted an engine with good low end power you should have just asked someone for advise on what to buy. Maybe you should have just saved some more money for a 4agze or 3S instead or silvertop. Im still a newby in this hobby so thats what I would have done.

Man, all I ever see from your posts are complaints about your Celica. I'm sure there's people out there who'd scoop it right out of your hands for a decent price so you can go and buy something that satisifies you.

the celica is one of the finest sport coupe - when i had bought this car - i looked at others including hondas, nissan, mazda, porsche (i wish) - for a reasonably priced car the 5sfe engine was the best in its class - comparing the interior/ exteriro of the celica to other models that had fallen witihn the 94-99 years - the shape and size of the celica was the best sporty looking coupe (my opinion)
the looks of the celica was what made me decide to buy it - i really did not know much about the history of the celica when i bought it - but 3 years down the road - after doing research about performance for it - first i got disappointed finding very little upgrade options, which made me think about trading it in for something else, but after I found out about the 3sgte - i stuck with the celica - if you want a well tuned car - you should spend your time and money wisely - by saving up for the best engine within the celica class - many of us here have repeatedly mentioned - don't waste your time doing it cheap, because it'll end up costing more in the long run - do it right the first time - meaning get an engine that was built for high end performance of course if you had the money - you can buy a new fast car to start off with and then modd it later down the road - new car - means montly loan repayments on that car - equals less money to spend modding the car (i doubt any one here would go out to buy a car and pay it off right there and then, whats the point in that, unless ur filthy rich -) on the other hand - getting a used car - allows you to pay it off quickly - or paying in full - when the car is paid for you can actually call it yours - you can modd it how ever you want - without making payments on it - more money to modd - I'm not sure which gen 4age you have - but in my opinion thats a slow engine to start off with - you can spend so much money on that engine and gain probably max of 240 hp (info from http://www.ae92gts.com/3a1.html and http://www.users.bigpond.com/vidore/toyota_4age_engine.htm) - you would spend too much money modding that engine to gain 240hp, but if you started out with a stock 2nd gen or 3rd gen 3sgte -you're already starting out with more than 200 hp. - then with upgrades here and there - you can easily obtain 275 hp without spending too much money - but this engine can go more than 500 hp that i have read - your complaint about the celica cannot be justified in my opinion - sorry for the long post to this |

i know for me, the only reasons why i bought my celica were:
A) i knew they lasted awile B) not quite as common as others C) i love the way they look...to me this is probably the best looking car out there (without spending a ton of money)... i know thats a stretch for alot of other people...but i just think it looks so smooth and clean. For me, this is my dream car until i get outa college and can get me a much more updated car. But ill always have this celica, and its so much fun to learn about this car, and aftermarket parts... my whole attitude towards this is you only live once, and why not enjoy it? I get no greater joy then learning something new about my car, and fixing it up. and i havent even started on the engine!!!! -------------------- I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club! |

heck i've spent maybe more than 10 grand on my car and am still saving up for more upgrades. its a hobby, a very expensive hobby. but the satisfaction i get from driving my car IS my reward. i dont need recognition or some kinda prize, it just brings a smile on my face whenever i drive the celi. even before the 3sgte came along, my little 7afe still did me proud. i miss that little bugger...lol
btw why dont u try taking ur 4age powered celi to the track souls? u might get more satisfaction from ur car that way and u might even realize what a damn good engine u've got. bboy -------------------- ..(formerly daily driven) 3S-GTE powered celica currently set @ 12psi.. |

QUOTE scoobies ain't that fast. I could get into trouble here. But remember i chose the celica over a scooby. Well scoobys are aggressive looking and celicas are more sleek. I knew about the scooby before the celica i think its every boys racers wannabe car, but the celica is the better overall car its the clever persons car. Scooby stats: Turbo 2000 4WD 208bhp mph144 0-60 6.4 mpg 29.9 Celica GT4 stats: 2.0 GT-Four 4WD 239bhp mph153 0-60 6.1 mpg 27.2 Also insurance is better on celica lower group. QUOTE what's a scooby?
