Is my car the only one that marks quarter tank when on empty??
My car has died several times when on the quarter tank mark, and wanted to know if its normal for our celicas, or if its something wrong with mine.

that would make sense lagos since - the needle might be getting stuck at that point and won't go down any lower - or the over lay may not be positioned properly making him think its not empty yet - but normally if the yellow light comes on - don't drive more than 20 miles other wise ur risking it dude

could it be the fuel pump?

i'd say chances are that you're car actually has 1/4 tank, but that where the gas is actually pulled from the tank is off.... That nshould be the problem I believe

well, when its full it marks exactly on the full line...

when i fill mine all the way, it goes above the full line and doesnt get down to it until after 20 miles or so. ive driven mine to where the needle drops below quarter so its not a common celica issue.

^what? im confused, if he had a quarter tank left why would his car be dieing?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

there is a little wire with a plastic floater thing that is attached to the fuel pump assembly. this is what measures how much gas you have. i cant really see that thing broken, but anything is possible.

i would take your gauge cluster out and make sure the needle can move freely . push it all the way down with your hand and start the car up ...then see if it climbs back up nice and smoothly

I'be driven my SSI till the needle droped below zero mark, and it still had about 5 liters left. So theres probably something wrong with yours.
And does the low fuel lamp turn on?

Celica has a 15 gallon tank, the light comes on when there's three miles left, the GT gets about 23-25mpg, and the ST gets 27-31mpg. Fill the tank all the way and mark your milage. My dad doesn't have fuel gauges on either of his trucks and that's how he measures it. That should also be enough info to test to see if it's the pump or the gauge. If it runs out and takes 15 gallon, it's the gauge. If it takes less, like 10-12, then you have a delivery problem.

The little floating thing in the tank is called the fuel sending unit... and they do go bad or get knocked out of adjustment every now and again (especially on Fords for some reason)... You can either try to tweak yours a bit or simply replace it. Another cause could also be the cluster...

my car did the same thing. the needle would not go past the 1/4 mark.

My mechanic fixed it for me for free.
