I've been looking into upgrading my suspension for a while and I'm desprately in need of some new rear struts. I have the tein s-tech springs, but my problem is that my car already sits pretty low to the ground with my lip kit(see profile). As it is, I bottom out all the time, so it might be dangerous to drop it. On the other hand, people keep making comments on ho large my wheel gap is. Should I lower it? I'd rather not destroy my front lip, but I'd like better handling and less wheen gap.

pretty much the reason your scrapping is your driving style
you don't drive the car appropriatly for the body you have therefor you scrape

personally i had a BOMEX front with nearly a 4" drop sitting ruffly 2" above the ground and i never scraped....

IMO learn to drive without scrapping and hitting your kit then potentially consider a drop

maybe getting thicker tires to cover the gap...with bigger rims...
maybe stiffer suspension so the body won't sink as much on curbs, hard acceleration, braking... new struts should make a difference i think.
as playr158 said driving style is something in consideration. maybe don't drive so aggressive? look out for pot holes. know your roads where they are smooth, less bumps, ect. look out ahead of roads of such.
Get better at weight transition...
thats all i could really think of now.

any suspension buffs on here should know the right thing to do. anybody?

bigger thicker tires really wont help....probably be more of a hinderance to performance and your speedo gauge...
how ever Shigexile is right when he says larger rims...when i put my 18s on my celica the car lifts up about 2" higher off the ground then when i have 14" rims on the car

well, I've got 17s on, but with the low profile tires, the overall diamter is the same as with my old 15s with bigger tires. I bet if I drop and replace my struts my suspension would obviously alot more stiff, I thought about that before, but still thought it would scrape more after the 1.5" drop.

This is an easy fix. Dump the lip, and continue to lower. Our Celica's look great without those lip kicks.

I agree with playr when he said it's your driving style. I have a 2" drop with the same lip, my car sits about 4" off the ground and I hardly ever scrape. Just take dips and speedbumps at an angle, and you will be ok. Here's a pic:

I was told if you just drive it careful you won't scrape.. thats about 80% true... there is just some things your gonna hit... and i've already done some damage to my kit and have had problems getting on Garage lifts with my Tein Springs and a lip kit...

So i had to fork out the money and did air ride... so i can enjoy the low and still get over bumps and lifts :-D
