Hi all
I've got an engine starting problem The car will start up, but choke and die after a couple sec, or when the throttle is opened A service guy from RACV (insurance roadside assistance) shorted the fuel pump to the battery via the diagnostics, and the engine ran.. He showed me which pin to short, but after he left I tried and couldn't start it, but the multimeter reads 13V when shorted.. does anyone have any suggestions? the fuel filter has been replaced so far |

The pins to short are +B and FP. Maybe your circut opening relay (fuel pump relay) went bad... You should get the diagrams and see what's up.

LOL! I have that problem everyday with my 4age silvertop swapped. I think its the Cold start injectors. During cold mornings or when the engine is cold it chokes like that and takes a while to start as I just sit there and crank the engine constantly. I'm guessing that the Fuel pressure Regulator has choked or gotten clogged at with one of the tubinges that go into the intake manifold.
Well, it seems that nobody knows anything about our Regulators so here Is what I thought up. There are 3 things with the Fuel pressure regulator. 1.) The part that sits beside the fuel rail and connects onto it 2.) The part that carries the fuel from the fuel rail and back into thegas tank 3.) There is this one tubing that is very small and goes into the intake manifold. I'm guessing that this one part #(3.) is actually the Cold start injectors, and when you crank the engine on the first time in the cold or hot it sends a little bit of fuel into Cylinder 1 to prime the engine ready for fire. When this part is clogged up or there is a lot of fuel present it cuts off the small amount of gas to prime the engine and that is why the engine won't start. If you look at a lawn mower it works the same way as well! You have to prime it 5-7 Times before it will run correctly. I haven't replaced mine yet, but I will do it sometimes this week and see if that makes any differences. A new regulator shouldn't cost as much as a fuel filter. Otherwise Na-celica you will have to sit there and crank the engine untill it fires up. Somtimes it takes almost 1 minute to do it. Make sure you have lots of batt. Juice and a really good starter cause it kills it. |

soulshadow, I could be wrong but I seem to recall that the silvertop doesn't have a cold start injector.
