So before I put the car on the market I want to finish the black conversion from that nasty blueish color. I have the seats left to do. I know there's like a black spray-dye stuff at auto-zone, how well does that work for just a basic application like this? I would spray the seats and the cloth section in the doors with it.
And yeah I searched, found a couple basic posts but not a lot of useful information -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

i used it on my back seats, when u do it, its very stiff and hard after you spray it on. You still can see the lil patterns on the seats, but it works pretty good. My seats came "black" from the factory but they were that blueish dark gray colour. But my back seats faded alot to almost a light purple and i sprayed it on and it turned it fully black. But yea, if you use it, wait a good 2 hours for it to dry and then all i can say is just sit on it and move around alot to sofen it up.

i wonder if this spray would work on the actual floor carpet and headliner...cuz im way too lazy to buy a new carpet and re-line the headliner...im not too worried about the seats though, hoping to get some covers fabricated.

it does, i tryed to do a 2 tone on my mirrors, but it didnt work 2 well due to over spray and the type of paint i was using for the SRS warnings. When the weather is warmer im gonna pull the headliner down and fix my sunroof and dye my headliner/air brush it.

this is what my interior looks/looked like. Its a lil darker than navy blue with some crappy design in the middel. The design still sticks out a bit with the fabric dye, but it really helps...my suggestion, to get some faded colour back, use a good upholstry and carpet cleaner let it dry and then spray.
and if u notice the top of my back seats ull see they r like...blurple. This is an old pic btw. But yea, they are fully black now with the fabric dye and a upholstry cleaner. This post has been edited by Valo666: Dec 22, 2005 - 10:56 PM |

the one i bought was by some company called you fix it. its some cheap brand that this store near here called Canadian tire sells. It was like $6.50 a can. It took me a full can to do my backseats and half a can to dye my 7th gen seats b4 i sold em.

am I like the only one who doesn't care that the center of my seat is gray?
But for the sake of comparing, my seats are the gray with the little blue streaks in it.(Hard to see the blue, but its there) The flash on my old camera made the console look blue, but its black, I promise. EDIT is it "gray" or "grey" and what the hell is the difference? It works really good beacause its not paint is a dye....so anything you go over will change its color completely. Another thing thats good about this is that its almost impossible to miss up with runs, or sags, because even if you spray in one area for a long time it all absorbs, and will look pretty good when your finished.
Valo is right though, on some fabrics,(not all) it will feel finda rough, but it will go away with time, and you can also use it on pretty much any fabric, or soft plastic, carpet too. |

I just finished spraying my seats completely black. Besides the rips from wear and tear it looks brand new (color wise).
This is a perfect solution for those of you that want to refurbish old looking seats. |

I think I'll do it this week along with painting my exhaust heat-shield black. Did you take out your seats to do them? Or just mask off the rest of the interior? -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Anyways, I took the seats out... a little easier than masking the rest of the car plus its better ventalation. This is what I used: If you're spraying fabric seats, buy matte color, if you're spraying leather or vinyl, buy glossy. |
