So i went to this local japaneese motor shop around here to go for a look. My 5s is on its way out..or at least its head is. Any ways, so i went in lookin 4 a 3sgte for a swap. So i found one, but no harness and ECU with it. The guy said he could get one from his contact in Japan in about 3 weeks. Hez sellin the motor with a 4wd trans for $700 CND. My question is, what generation 3sgte is this?? From the look of it, im sayin its from the 4th gen all tracs.
And, my second 3s question is about a JDM 3sge. Not a beams, just a regular 3sge. He has about 6 of them sittin in his warehouse with no ECU or trans. Sellin em for $400 each. He told me if i wanted to swap a 3s-ge into my celi, all i would have to do is swap every thing from the 5s over to the 3s block. He said the wiring is the same cuz the 3s n the 5s is the same essentialy. So im really interested in gettin one of these if its as easy as he says. But my question is, is that possible?? Puttin a 3s block and intake manifold onto a 5s motor mount and 5s accessories?? My 5s is almost gone and its gonna cost me $500 to get my head rebuilt and get my valves fixed. So i figure if i can get an entire motor for less and get somethin kinda unique, why not? any ways, heres the pic of the 3s he has, sorry for the low light, his warehouse is half lit and i didnt have any lights with me. |

Thats a first gen 3sgte from an ST165, I'd pass on it, especially with those important parts missing. Find an ST185 clip.
And thats a really bad picture of the 3s. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Jan 3, 2006 - 3:26 PM -------------------- |

yea..sry...crappy camera phone...i might head down there again tomorrow with my actuall digital camera and take a pic of it. he said its a JDM 3s, but i cant find a pic of it on the net any where. It says 3s-ge on the timing cover like most toyota motors have, but the intake manifold is like a beams one, but the spark plug wires are visable like on a 5s or a 7a. I asked him if he had a beams but he said he has never even seen one.

That 3S-GE is a 1st gen 135HP with T-VIS. And he's wrong about the swap. You do need the 3S-GE ECU and wiring harness for that engine.

since it hasnt been mentioned yet...wiring on the 5SFE and the 3SGE are completely different. i dont think u should trust what that guy says, he obviously doesnt know about our cars
btw theres also more to it than just ecu and wiring harness...u gutta get ur hands on stuff like afm, ignitor, coil, resistor pack, etc etc. bboy -------------------- ..(formerly daily driven) 3S-GTE powered celica currently set @ 12psi.. |

yeah i would skip on all those... that 3sgte was made on the 80s and is missing tons of **** you would need to make it work . spend a few more bucks and do it right with a clip
