actually, unlike the US we only have to wait 15 years.....

2 more years and we can import GT-4 biggrin.gif

What i find amusing is the fact that our governments thinks that the vehicle was manufactured differently. The glass is the same as ours, the rims would have been built in Canada or the US.

If toyota made completely different parts it would have cost them a fortune, plus its Toyota.... they are the lean manufacturing Gurus

If you buy a celica in Japan, you can get a 1994/1995 for under 4,000 USD.

With all due respect I think that a ST205 for $4000 will be a bag of 5h1t, it is more then likely to be a Kaizousha car or a complete bag of nails.
Realistically you are looking more $8000 for a good ST205 from Japan.

i found this link on here a month or 2 ago.
http://eng.autoscout24.com/home/index/list...&sort=price
i'm a little more interested in one of these euro lhd gt4s, though the price is steeper, and the goodies probably fewer than a jdm gt4.

Hmm, that means it would be quite easy to get a GT-4 here into the U.S. then... biggrin.gif

I've looked into that. The import laws block us from doing that. That's why they say that only "some" cars from Canada can be brought into the U.S. I'm not saying it's impossible, but someone on our end would have to screw up when they let it in because there are some specific clauses preventing that.

What if we knew someone who lived in Japan that could buy the car for us, register it, and then ship it here and sell it?

What About the import tax and other fees? The only one you've really addressed is the bond of 150%.... which can be alot, but you get it back if all the parts are converted over in 120 days and it passes inspection. Right?

I guess I said in the first post that I'd update this thread as I got closer to doing this. Well, the update is that I've given up on it and I bought a '93 MR2 Turbo instead. I've kept the Celica for a daily driver. Good luck to you Canadians. A little less than two years until you can legally import them...

2) Canada
Just as hard as the states, so if you get one there, you're home free, but you'll probably run into the same problems.

If canada can import them in 2009, then we should do more research on that to see what we need to do to get them over here. Bc with canada being that close to me (an hour and 10 mins away) My mind will go nuts if I can't have one.

Yeah I brought the thread back from the dead... kindasad.gif but I'm currently obsessed with getting a new car in a year or two and i want it to be a GT4.

Like the man says........ GT four's are good smile.gif

but there not that good when you look at the scoobies and evos coming in legely
with 20lt lump pushing 350 + bhp.......

if you can get one for real money than go for it, but don't hold your breath when you
take her for your first test drive wink.gif

yeah, the other cars have more power but look at the motors and the turbos in them. larger displacement and slightly larger turbos.

now, I know if I'm spending the cash for a gt-4 then it won't stay stock for long. 500+ whp would be my minimum requirement if I had an awd celica...
