allright guys i need your input. just recently i installed a ct-26 turbo on my 5sfe block it was all workin good for about a week now, and just yesterday i was coasting down the exit ramp to go to work and all off a sudden my engine just shuts off my itself i was like wtf so i try starting it it took about 5 turns for it to fire, and once it did it knocked like a sob and i had like no power felt like 2-3 cylinders. so i take it easy and drive it the rest of the way to work which was 2 blocks and i park it and pop the hood to see where the chatter was comming from. it sounds like it's comming from the head. after work i started the car up again and it started up with ease.. lil rough but not as before. so it's all workin and decide to take it for a test drive around the block. it was getting worse and worse. i brought it back and popped the hood it was nothing but screeching and sounded like metal on metal so i'm thinking cams. i turn it off and let it be. it sat overnight.

it seems like it's not getting oil my friend said. i took the oil feed from the stock sender with a T. i'm using a -3 an feed and a -12 an drain. my friend is gonna help me tow it home tonite to see what tge deal is. i'm just gonna take off the valve cover to start out with to see damge. i also have a relocation kit mounted on my driver side fender well. do you think that this is too much travel for the oil pump to pump out??

thanks guys for your input.

As do I, if you were getting a knocking sound you may have spun a bearing/thrown a rod.

it's not a thown rod that's for sure. couple of my buddies took a look at it from work and they both think it's the exuast cam cuz it's only comming from the front of the engine. i was lil high boost at first until i finally got the right setting on the bov. motor has 125k on it. it's all highway miles. the previous owner drove it over 100 miles a day to work down in missouri. but the problem is def oil no doubt about it. so soon as i get a chance the valve cover is coming off for a better look. thanks guys for your input.

I'm telling you bro... it's not the head. If it was something in the head, the engine will barely run, or die completely. Only time you screw up a valve, you over-rev or you break the timing belt, and even the timing belt would be hard to do since these engines are non-interference. I think you blew a piston/rod.

There isn't an actualy bearing... just cam caps. If you didn't see anything out of the ordinary when you took the valve cover off... it's not the caps. If it were, the shims would be all over the place...

Let me ask you this... what makes you so sure it's the head? You do realize it's fairly difficult to screw up the head no? From your description, you're not driving hard enough... Typically, only extreme heat, lack of oil, and over revving can screw up the head...

There is an oil drain tube in the back of the head due to the 5S leaning back, check to make sure that didn't clog. I believe even with a cap it still runs bearings but i'm not sure about that though, it is also possible that youslipped a tooth on the timing but unlikely.

my buddy showed me the old screwdricer trick being used as stethiscope. what you do is you put the tip of the screwdriver on each cylinder below the head and you can hear the distortion. so i went to each one and found that the pass side cylinder is the bad one. when i first start the car up it's really rough starting like jerky. and soon as the car warms up and the oil light comes on then the engine starts stuttering like slapping. my buddy said tha i prob blew a rod bearing and there is some gap. he said the same thing happened to his dad's truck he was driving and bam all of a sudden it just went out. so i dunno guys if i should take on the task of doing it or if i should just fork out the extra cash and get a new engine. what year engine can i go up to that it will be compatible with my car. 96 celica gt. i would like to get the newest engine with low miles on it.

If you said the passenger side, you meant the #1 cylinder, which would explain the start up problem, try tuning up your ignition, pull the spark plug and check for discoloration and also your #1 fuel injector could be getting clogged. If a rod bearing went out your motor would probably have siezed or come pretty close.

i'm thinking its piston or rod damage that probably damaged the valves. time for a rebuild.

This might be too obvious, but have you checked your oil. lol. You're pump could have gone bad. My old car ran out of oil once and it got very loud, and giving it gas didn't help it go forward.
