QUOTE(Supersprynt @ May 20, 2006 - 6:45 PM) Ok I can just about confirm, the full spacer is too long. About 1/4''-1/2''. Is ANYBODY using a full spacer? I am using the full spacer. I have found that the parts we end up using as spacers from the complete outer axles appear to be a little different. The same part number, but visually different. What I found is the outer portion is shaved down to slide into the the intermediate shaft. This seemed to fix that 1/4-1/2 inch you are talking about and stopped the grease from flying out. There does need to be a gasket set inbetween the two "spacers" to stop that from leaking as well. I will see if I can take some pics and post them. My first attempt lasted 18 months and found that the bolts I originally used were to long and finally snapped them at the shoulders. I think I have it right this time. I have grade 8's for the bolts, and the spacing seems to be good to go. |

passenger side needs the spacer... I told you what to do so many times..... get a spare set of alltrac axles and cut the end of it off and make a spacer. If you want to be daring make it at the machine shop. But honestly its only 1/4 inch. Its not much of a spacer. But you need it or else its going to pop out.
Now on the drivers side you do not need any kind of spacer its long enough as it is. Just make sure you have the rear trans mount all figured out. Im a visual guy.... well if you know what a carrier bearing is.... well its like this. The carrier bearing on a celica is small than the one on an mr2. SO when you try to put the carrier bearing through the carrier bearing bracket it doesnt fit. SO you need the carrier bearing bracket off of an mr2/alltrac. Its bolts right to the block. You can do that or I guess you can try to bore out the stock bracket. -------------------- BANNED!

Burneed why don't you explain what exacly you are using for your spacer better. The peice int he pic that someone posted is just sheet metal basically and cannot be used for a spacer.
Also could you explain how the axle pops out with the carrier bearing and bracket installed? |

I've never been clear on what Burneed actually CUT to make a spacer.
What I did personally was take the center ring from an extra alltrac axle (Figure A) and put it in the middle of the axle right next to the exact same piece (Figure B). I lined up the grooves so that the bearings would not be able to push through into the extra spacer and I packed the extra spacer full of grease. The first time I did this I could not get the axle into the hub, it was too long. I took the piece in Figure A to a machine shop and they CNC'ed about .5'' off. It now fits perfectly. Super,
That is what I am trying to use too. I just haven't gotten it cnc'd yet. Why line up the grooves so the bearing can not go into the extra spacer though? |

Yeah I think what we're all confused is what YOU actually cut. Theres no way you cut the center piece. In fact they said they went thru 4 bits on the CNC machine. Its quite a tough piece of metal.

burneeed, please take this picture, save it on your hard drive and edit it with paint brush to tell us exactly what you cut. Mark it in blue or some other color than red
------------ NOTE: this picture has already a red 1/2" mark on it that i put in there for a ealier post -------------------- -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

hey guys got an idea! on the passenger side axle line the spacers up so the groves line up.in stead of trying to limit the range of motion or the amount play. if the wheel is straight the bearings will be in the first housing, when the wheel is turned the axle nut will pull the bearings out to the second CV housing. i know that u can off set the two CV housings on the driver's side but it may not be the way to go on the passenger's side.
or get it machined down to the correct length does that sound logical to anyone else? |

I think I have mentioned it atleast 20x.. you must get the carrier bearing bracket from a Mr2. The carrier bearing from the celica is smaller than the one on the mr2. SO you wil need the carrier bearing bracket + snap ring from a mr2. -------------------- BANNED!

this thread is 8 pages of stuff, thats long and hard to follow, i find most of it very confusing.
this topic should be cleaned or be re-posted with all accurate info right from the start, then stickied Burneed, can you please show us with a pict what part of the axle you cut, we need a visual of what you are trying to say to us. look a few posts up. thanks edited in a nice way (sorry about my original post) This post has been edited by K-ESD: Sep 10, 2006 - 12:11 PM -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

Does the axle need to be also LSD? got another question...i heard that the v6 solara e153 tranny is a good choice also.. if i go with that tranny (with LSD)...are there any changes to do in the axle/carrier/snap ring (or any other part needed) setup?
