So I was thinking somewhere along the line that since I still have the long block from my 7AFE and the 4age. Im planning to turn the 20V head and mate it onto the 7afe block and make a 20V 1.8L Hybrid engine. 7AGE 20V turbo. Dyno #'s are unknown and im not sure if its even possible, but considering the fact that 4age 20V internals are hard to come by, if not even next to an rich $$$ impossible. So if I do plan to do this, I need a good daily driver car and some funds, but when I have both Im gonna attempt this and see what turns out.
-------------------------- 1.) Heres my plans, forged turbo pistons of 1.8L. + Using the 1.8 block I can find many support and hardware that will fit this American Block. + I get to keep A/C, P/S on the old 7afe engine. - Using the 1.8L, I will lose those high revving power of the 4age block, but will compensate it with the turbo. The 1.8L is more of a block made for combustion and not performance, so the Turbo will use it as a power house for HP figures. ------------------------------ 2.) 4AGE 20V head, Using Toda's website I can find the short block parts elimanating the need to search for the long block internal parts. + 20V head, 3 Valve intake and 2 exhaust. Elimante VVT with cam shaft that will cover the 3rd valve when VVT opens. So I get 3 constant valves and VVT running during the whole operation. - Timing belt issue, oil issue, what am I gonna do for spark? ---------------------------- 3.) Megasquirt EMS, something cheap yet something that will work with the hybrid systems. + can be tuned, cheap and effective + Spark could be Ford EDIS system. - hard to build, and no support on hyrbid issues. - Ford Edis, will provide many failures, or trials and errors. ---------------------------- 4.) Turbo system, + More power for the combustion of 1.8L - Must build my own header that will support the 20V head for turbo apps. ---------------------------- 5.) Time, wat am I gonna do?? Im in school and must also work! ------------- What do you guys think? Is it possible. I have the two engines now and when I can find someone who is willing to sell me a complete 7afe engine with everything still attached to it. I will begin my experiment. But if I can find a daily driver now, I will take out the 4age and see if it will work with the 7afe block. |

its been done by some guy on a red mr2. it had like 300hp. im pretty sure it was turbo.7agte 20v. he used the silvertops head. nothing personal, but once you find out how much crap will need to be custom and modified, you'll change ur mind. for less trouble and almost the same amount of fun, do a 16v 7agte like nik or frotou. i think nik's predicting 350-400hp. so just to say u have 20 valves, its not worth the hassle unless ure a fulltime mechanic and love ****in with cars that much. just my opinion tho...

Soulshadow already has a 20v in the car. Dude, I would just build that thing. 1.6 or not, it's capable of real power.

Just turbo your 20V. The .2 liters of displacement isn't really worth the hassle IMO... unless you're gonna go all out and build it (like nik).

hmmmm...All the efforts to make a 20V hybrid or just turbo it.... I dunno, it seems like I might just turbo it since its in the car already. But my first plans are too get my P/S back, cause its starting to feel kinda hard to drive when Im feeling Lazy. Its either Turbo with 5-10 Psi of boost....which is quite low, or complete N/A.
For sure tho, I will wait untill I can get a daily driver worked out. I'll let you guys know of my plans. |

5-8 psi with 10:5 compression and 3 intake valves makes a LOT of power.
