Just curious. I know most have higher mileage engines due to the age of our cars. My celi with 70K appears to have just developed a small leak. I guess most cars will develop oil leaks with age, mileage, or driving habits. Do you think 70K is early for a leak (I don't drive her really hard and my engine is hardly modified)?

70k is not too early. That's about the time cars need some major work. Need to replace all kinds of things to new. You'll see a ton of GT with leaks. There's a common leak around the timing belt with these things.

I don't have a NOTICEABLE leak but I do lose oil. Not sure if it's leaking out or being burned off. Slightly worried about but it has not effected performance.

Yeah, I got several front engine seals replaced and my timing belt replaced to stop an oil leak on the celica in my profile. |

no leaks when i was NA... after turbo, i had lotsa different leaks... from the oil pan cause i bought a MR2 turbo oilpan with the oil level sensor bung which i didn't need.. defgeph tried to weld a piece of metal on it to cover it but didn't work, oil relocation kit leaked from the block side and the filter side, radiator cap was bad so coolant leaked.. all these we fixed... now there's a new leak which i have yet to locate.

With close to 265,000 miles on mine I've got a pretty good handle on where most of the leaks will come from/are coming from. Right now I'm leak free, but there were lots of gaskets that needed replacing to get me here. First and foremost, valve cover gasket is the most common one (done that one more than a few times). Second is a gasket on the side (distributor, I think? I had my mechanic take care of that one). If you can get under your car with a light you'll see it coming down the side there if that's the culprit. Thirdly if you've got a manual tranny, the gaskets for your axles can leak (Tranny oil, but it's still drops on your garage floor). Now that all my leaks are fixed my car doesn't lose much oil. I used to burn a quart between oil changes, and now it's probably less than a quarter of a quart. And by the way, 70k is not too early. Gasket failure is not only a function of mileage, but also age.

no noticeable leak - 206,000 miles - burning oil fast though - and a crack radiator -O2 sensors needs replacing/ intake air sensor needs replacing- i'm sure gaskets need to be changed - but holding off since i will be replacing the engine - so don't want to waste any more money on this one

my valve guides were really out of round on my head and i was leakin oil into my combustion chamber and my oil pressure sending unit on both my block and trans werent tightened down to much and were spewing for a lil while. Oil pressure sending units fix, free besides -5 min of my life, head replacement, $140 for head, $180 for gasket kit, $100 for oil, coolant, thermostat, so forth, and install $850. Not fun.

im pretty sure that my celi is leaking oil from the head gasket, how much was it for you guys to get that replaced? my engine has 177,000 miles on it and is leaking and burning pretty heavily. i want to get a new engine but im not sure it is worth investing any more money in the car cause the body has taken some pretty noticeable dings/dents over the years and putting a good engine back in there on a pretty beat up body doesnt seem like the best move for the direction of the car. I think i might just start looking for a newer celica or something for about 5/6k to put down on. unless i could get away to replace the head gasket for about 200 and have the car back running with no leaks anymore.
