I think for me, paying these guys is a much better option.

2nd that - as i have no time or location to do it - if i have location - i'll definitely find the time - but that means rental car for me since this is my only car - at the end i think it'll all end up costing the same as if i paid some one to do it - so i agree bloodrain - $7100 for some one to do it within 2 wks - or $7100 for me to do it for over 2 wks -

it would be nice to have the time, money, and means to do a swap.

I would also add patience and desire to the equation.

you guys just need to get off your buts and do it yourself! no one on here that did their own swap was any type of mechanic to begin with . if we can do it, so can you!

X's 2

I would do it if I had the time, space, and tools, all of which I have none of now. I did my turbo project this summer because I didn't need an engine lift, or a bunch of space, or any tools really more than a few wrenches. I'd like to do it, but I'm in school and have that work, etc. If I could just give my car to someone I wouldn't miss it (i rarely drive it now in school anyways; I walk everywhere) if i could just get it back with a 3sgte.

i'm sure we all can do it on our own as long as we have the tools including a good digital camera to take pictures of every signficant thing so we'll be able to put it back together n a bunch of ziploc bags

you hit the nail on the head!

all these excuses are lame! this isint like talking your car to the shop so that they can put new brake pads on. its not a "give them the keys, and take it home perfect" kind of thing. if a mechanic tells you that it will be done in a week, then that really means a month . if they say a month, then it really means a year.

i didnt have any tools, no garage, or no past car experience. i have to admit, that when i got the clip, and the 3sgte coolness factor wore off, i got a little overwhelmed about how i was going to pull this off. but then i kept just working on it, and got some much needed help from other 6gc members and got it done.

one of the best things about doing the swap, is how it will change you as a person. not only your car, but your skills and knowledge of how things work will be turbo charged.

do your own damn swap, or you will just regret it, like coomer and other people who had to deal with the stress that only a mechanic can bring into your life.

my offer still stands, if you guys want to fly your a$$'s down here and help, i'll pay for your plane ticket :-p Because I dont have an engine lift or jacks high enough to lift the car to get the engine out, nor do I have the space at my house to do it. So either way, paying them is best option for me. I know I would love to do it on my own or with friends, but its just out of the question.

i had the same questions and problem as you. no tools, no engine lift, no garage, no place to ship a clip to, no place to put it, never worked on a car before, etc....

just started talking to people. told them that i needed to find a nice garage to rent. turned out that one of my coworkers dad had a pretty large space next to his shop. they let me stay there for 2 months and i gave him some left over clip parts for his car. .... the trucking co droped the clip off at the garage

for tools, i went to a store and bought some. you can get almost everything you need in a 100-200$ toolset.

for engine lift, i called around and found a place that rents them for about 40bucks a day. then i realized it would be cheaper to buy one. 200bucks later, i had a lift.... now i even see some lifts going for as little as 119$ at pepboys.

im probably going to be pulling out my motor again this summer to rebuild and upgrade it. i have no garage and no engine lift again and i most likely cant use the same location i did before cause somone else is renting it. so ill have to start looking all over again.... not really a big deal.
