My friend has a cavalier z24 too and is really headstrong bout his too... id say u can beat it... cuz they really are nothing special. just race him liek 3 times, his engine will blow at somepoint in there and u automatically win... stupid domestics. hes had to put so much repair dollars into his cavalier... its awfull.

Looking at the specs.

Cavalier weight = 2800 LBS
Celica weight 2550 LBS

Cavalier 0-60 = 9.1 sec
Celica 0-60 = 8.4 sec

Even with those 10 extra hp (with an intake?!) statistics are on your side!

Kadett, here are the real specs for U.S. lol

Z24 0-60 8.1 sec
US GT Celica=11sec

while they are only off the top of my head, i know for a fact 1996-1999 z24's run low 16 sec 1/4th and the 00-02 runs mid 15's stock

Celica GT's run 17.8-16.6 ish if your lucky....how sad

where did you get 11 seconds? US gt is 8.4 and the ST is 9.9. maybe 11 seconds is an automatic ST or something.

when i ran the 5s at the track (auto as well) it took like 10 sec to get to 60, and at 17.5 1/4th it reached 77 mph.

I use to have a Z24 that I raced dirt track with. Those things are nothing to laugh at. It was gutted and everything, but those can be really fast if they are just kept in good condition. The problem is, most just buy them and beat them to death and don't fix what needs fixed. I had a 3.1 though, and they might have been more powerful than the newer 2.4 and newier yet 2.2's. Oh, they handle pretty sloppy in my opion, so anything besides a drag is kind of a losing battle unless you upgrade the suspension. That isn't hard to do in those things though. Cheap parts. They make a nice turbo kit for those 3.1s, and it came on the old special edition Grandprix's. My mom had one of those. Either way, a good match for a Celica in a drag.

I googled/yahooed and got the info of a 1996 cavalier. So maybe thats why playr158 has different times. But 11 seconds for a GT Celica even if its a 2.2 5S-FE with auto trans. I just cant believe that.
