Hi, someone is trying to sell me one for $200, and he said it has about 40,000 miles on it and he said its from Japan,

Would this be easy to put in my 94 ST?

is this a good deal?

If it's just $200, it's not to bad of a deal. Make sure it is the 4age and not 4afe. I assume the 16v uses the same mounts as the other A series, so yes it will bolt into place of a 7afe. I'm not sure what kind of upgrade this would be, but it's definately better than the 7afe. What did the 16v even come in? And what years?

You may as well stick with the 7A-FE - same power output, much more torque - and you can always slap the 4A-GE head onto it to make it a 7A-GE hybrid...

I had a 7A-FE as well in my old car, torque is much more useful than high revs wink.gif

The 7A runs out of breath at about 4000 rpms... while the 4AGE will go much higher. A stock 4AGE isn't that great... but it has a ton more potential for power than a 7AFE.

It might have more potential but what use is a car with heaps of power but no torque?

Do the 7A-GE hybrid. Best of both worlds.

If you want have a little fun especially on weekends, you need hp. Lots of torque doesn't make a good car. My last car was nothing before about 3k rpm, but it pulled hard till 7600. It wasn't as good for driving around town as the Celica, but it wasn't bad at all. I had an rx7 too, and they don't have much torque either, and they are still fine to drive around town. The only thing I've drove to compare with the Celica is my dad's Ford Cummins turbo pick-up. It is very much like the Celica actually. Desiel Power! (Prodigy)

I suppose it depends on what you are trying to build - if it's going to be a street car, then torque is going to be quite useful unless you want to keep shifting gears. You can get away without torque, but you'll be shifting gears all day to stay in your peak power band.

It's a matter of taste. You can't have the best of both worlds if you're gonna go with an n/a horsepower 4 cylinder engine. It's merely prefrence when people make arguements like you have right now... so hey... if that's what you like... more power to ya... but some people are fine with shifting gears and pushing an engine into the higher rpms. Just because it's not your thing... that hardly justifies it being bad or wrong... it's just not your thing.

Didn't say if it's my thing or not. smile.gif just saying from past experience having owned a 7A-FE and 4A-GE, the 7A-FE feels more usable. True, bit weak up top, but plenty more lowend power.

I have to beg to differ... and I've owned them all. 16V TVIS makes as much torque as the 7AFE... 16V smallport is much more powerful and the torque differences is only between idle and 3500 rpms (which the engine is at for what... one gear?)... it's greater power makes up more than enough for the somewhat flat low-end... and the 20V 4ages make up for any torque short comings with excellent throttle reponse via ITBs...

That's not saying I don't like torque... hell... I drive on a weekly basis our shop's modded F250 with over 600 ftlbs of torque off idle... What I don't like... is seemingly biased opinions...

You don't have to agree with me. But you don't have to go off at me either for voicing my opinion.

I'm not going off... and I happen to agree with you... but I've already answered posts like this hundreds of times before and It bugs me when people just jump in and 'express' this is good, that is bad, so on and so forth without considering anything else. especially when it comes to A series engines...

There's no such thing as a 16v silvertop. The silvertop is a 20v, and is better.

Yes, your stock tranny will bolt up to it.

theres 2 versions of the 20v, as far as valve cover colors. silvertop, blacktop.
as far as i know, theres 2 versions of 4age 16v. redtop and bluetop.
and the gze valve cover i think is silver, but the gze is a 16valver.
