so today i took my car in to the shop to get the timing belt replaced because its that time and i got a call saying that the idle pulley and the belt tensioner pulley are bad and have bad bearings and need to be replaced. The guy wants $80 for both of them. Am i getting ripped off or is it legit?

QUOTE(dlx742 @ Jan 28, 2006 - 1:35 PM) so today i took my car in to the shop to get the timing belt replaced because its that time and i got a call saying that the idle pulley and the belt tensioner pulley are bad and have bad bearings and need to be replaced. The guy wants $80 for both of them. Am i getting ripped off or is it legit? Did you hear it squeaking when you brought it in? If not, everything is probably fine. If the tensioner is bad, the belt won't get tite, and will squeek. If there is a bad bearing, it won't turn smoothly and will squeek. That's the only way to know there bad, exscept on a bearing, you might be able to wigal the idoler pulley a little, and that would mean it's probably bad. Something this guy probably wouldn't even check unless he was looking for something to replace. That's just my take on things. I check everything myself, so I don't have problems with that. If I ever have to have anyone do something to my car, I'm there the intire time watching them do it. That way, I'll know for future if I need to do that, and to make sure they're not screwing something up. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy
