I hooked up my 1600 watt max amplifier to my 2 800 watt max Kicker subwoofers. After turning it up and letting it pound for about 10 minutes, a burning smell came from the subwoofers. I looked this problem up on the internet and it said that it could be burning off some of the glue from the factory or some dust on the subs. I know I did drill a hole in the box with the subs in it and there may still be some saw dust in it. Could that be it? I have no idea. Please Help!! THANKS ALOT

Does it still make sound?
Sounds kinda like you may have fried a voice coil... what amp are you using? If it's a cheap and nasty amp... then there's your reason. The amount of power fed to speakers or a sub is irrelevant, as long as the power is good, clean power. In my old car, I ran my splits with 220WRMS all day, they are rated for about 60WRMS. -------------------- www.tangcla.com - photography

fisrt off dont make another thread on a topic you already have a thread on 4 spots down. you are running to much power on the subs and you are burning up the subs. eventualy they will pop or seize. turn the bass boost down and the gain down.

so bump ur other thread dont make another i can be an ass if i want its the internet. If its saw dust then i wont smell like something is burning. Also what ohm load are you running the amp at and your 1600 watt amp is let me guess an 800.4. is the amp clipping poppin in and out. smoke and a buring smell from a subwoofer is coil, plain and simple.

What does clipping and popping out mean? And there is no smoke It was just saw dust coming out and there was saw dust particles on my back window.... also how do i figure out the ohm load the amp is running? I'm new to all of this sound system stuff

are your subs dual 4ohms or dual 2 ohms. They should have sold you dual 2s, it also says on the box. If you didnt see smoke but dust then ok, but the smell is coil its common when a fresh sub is beat on, or over powered.so depending how long you have had them alittle smell is ok, and kickers are known for the smell, you just dont want to push then that hard all the time. clipping is when the output goes from AC to DC and thats bad when ur sub places DC.

OK thanks for you help! I dont know if the subs are dual 4 or 2ohms. I kind of threw this system together
I bought the subs in a box for 120. They never had a problem before. Will the sub be ok it I continue to smell that burning smell? What else can I do? I turned the gain half way down and the crossover off. I also turned the bass boost half way down. Thanks A LOT -------------------- !!KANER!!

the crossover must be on low pass and set the crossover at 80 and turn the bass boost off for now. if they keep smelling then sooner than later they will die.

Take the sub out of the box to read it off the back of the magnet on the sub itself... it's worthwhile doing, especially if you don't know what your sub and amp ratings are.
