Well, as the topic description says, I'm looking for a (possible) member on here that has a RHD 6th-gen and lives in BC. My dad spotted it around Kelowna this past fall... it is the teal version I do believe...

I would like to get in contact with him about the process he went through to import the car and when... If anyone knows of him, on or off the board, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: also, any members in BC, I'll be here for a couple more weeks, and heading to Vancouver for a couple days next week if anyone wants to meet up

doesn't it have to be 15yrs old befor we are allowed to import? I have heard of people importing cars newer than that but not being able to register them. I think thats why there was a 6th gen gt4 for sale in Calgary a while back.

all I can figure is that it was imported before the 15-year rule went into effect... so it would be legally registered, and if so, I want to buy it biggrin.gif

thanks for the info....
2.5 years is probably the earliest i can get 'em (if one is available for sale/import) ... but realistically speaking, maybe 3 years if i'm desperate, seeing that one is available, or 4 years when i save up enough $$$ for a good down-payment.

hey,
i have white st205 in Ohio but i my importer in calagry also imported a 97 dark green one in late 93 into canada from japan ..

i have not talked to him in 2 years but last i heard he was going to convert to LHD using another celica he had ...

he did have family living in ON but not sure what happened to that car ..

most gtfours in NA has been brought as parts cars or some other not 100% offical way ... my car was brought in as a parts car but we did not take anything off... though it was bought damaged in japan ..

ok, so it was brought in before the 15-year rule came into effect in Canada I guess... The law is kinda vague surrounding that, and as far as I'm concerned, if the car is structurally safe, it should be able to be imported, since this law is basically in place because of different safety standards between different countries...

thanks a bunch guys!, and if anyone hears or knows of someone who was able to import a 6th-gen and license it here in Canada, let me know!

Sorry but nope...you`ll have to wait until 1st March 2009 before the 6th Gen Celica becomes 15 years old...officially launched on the 1st march 1994....the old 5th Gen was still being made up till this point....But I`m sure the wait will be worth it...be quick though cause there arnt many Left hand drive GT4`s about. Most were right hand drive.

The only way I know of importing without a few problems would be to have the engine removed overseas and have the body and engine shipped seperately. Once it is over, just reinstall it and you can then register it as a kit car.

He brought it in in parts. body in one container and drive train in another. The body had noticable damage on it. Door pilar hit in an accident. They cleared customs as salvage parts. He put the car back together. He talked to the RCMP about title and was told he could use a JDM serial number only if that number was not being used anywhere else. He produced documents to show that it was a salvage and once re-assembled it had to pass inspection; which is not hard here. He expects to have it on the road this coming summer, RHD and all. He is also open to offers if anyone wants to but it. He was looking for around $20,000 last time I talked to him.

wow, sounds like a lot of trouble just to have it legal. although it would be worth it... biggrin.gif

and as far as the march '09 thing, the car would have a date of manufacture on it, and as such, would be 15 years old from the date of manufacture sometime late '08. and being that the 15-year rule is so vague, I'm sure you could get by with importing one in late '08.
