Yes, but not much. Many people will disagree with me when I say this, but I don't think the cost for a full custom exhaust justifies a few extra HP. IMO, the only time it's worth it to have an exhaust system is when you're turboed or swapped.

You're right, there are people that won't agree with you. I don't like the thought that you have to have a turbo to do anything good. I'm just a NA guy. The 5sfe and 7afe aren't good NA motors, but they will pick up a couple hp from exhaust. If every little hp you can get matters to you, exhaust isn't a bad idea.

I'm not saying the exhaust doesn't help. I'm just saying money is better spent elsewhere. Why spend $400 for a header, 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust, hi-flow cat and a brand name muffler just to pick up a few lousy horsepower and make a lot more noise?

On some cars you can pick up more. I've only spent probably $200 total on my exhaust, and I've picked up a little little gain. I'm talking header and exhaust though. Do it yourself is the best. I do agree that some cars just aren't worth it, but sometimes you have to make due with what you have. I would rather have a better platform for building, but the Celica is all I have to work with for now. A few hp can be up to 15hp total or more if you get the right equipment on the right motor. I seen on Speedvision, a Viper that picked up a ton just from a cat back. I tend to stick with the idea that older cars weren't build as well. But the fact is, newer cars have more emissions to ditch. I don't know which would pick up more, but it just depends on the engine.

buy a header for a 1.8L 93-97 Corolla and have it installed. I did. It made a big difference with the responce and feel of the 7a. Best bang for the $$ IMO.

Like the other posts in here it is an easy install if you can weld pipe or if you just take it to a muffler shop. The bottom end is at the wrong angle (right for the corolla) and about 4 to 6 inches from the cat. Also if you have a 96 or newer ST you will have to put the rear O2 sensor in. I am running without one and no codes have popped yet.

Who cares about horsepower? Strip the **** outta that baby! It's an ST, so if you can get it under 2200 pounds you'll have lots of fun.

I will worship anyone who can strip a 6th gen down to 2000lbs and still have it fuctional and look normal from the outside. If I had a spare celica laying around I would do it.

bolt in a small block V8 great power

I was drinking a soda and spit it out laughing when i read your response! Remember the guy with the 5th gen celica called frakenstien(supra headlights) that was swapping the v8 with rear drive into his celica on car domain? I posted it here a few times. I think he found out the hard way! This is his quote:

Alright boys and girls this is where it gets sick.... the newest plan is to put a 302 5.0 litre engine out of a mustang(cough yes thats V8 short block) and using the drive train tranny and everything to convert over to rear wheel drive...not to mention either going turbo or supercharger...this beast will be insane and yes it does sound impossible...but i have a crew that can help me make it happen...just imagine a celica...with a v8
dear lord...it has to be illegal

SO tell me what ya think ...
Heres the link to his dream:
frakenstienEngine work

exactly, when you only have around 100hp, weight reduction can make a significant difference. 2000 lbs is pushing it but i think it could be done (audio system and all interior panels/carpet removed, all seats and seat belt assemblies removed with light driver seat, spare and tools removed, remove sound damper off of frame, light wheels/hood/fenders, cf hatch with lexan panel, AC removed, airbags removed with new steering wheel, and other little details) i dont even know if that would get down to 2000. wouldnt look pretty on the inside, but would be fun to drive biggrin.gif, well except for road noise, no music, hot as hell in the summer, probably too front heavy.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Yep, I definitely think it's possible. Then you'd effectively have the power to weight ratio of a lotus elise... and you'd have a toyota motor, too... ironic.

not quite that of an elise. they have 190hp and are 1984lbs. but it would be pretty quick for daily driving, thats for sure.
