This is just a question, and don't want to be flamed about it. Yes I used search and read everything. I live in Az now, and smog is different then Cali. First smog is run in a few Goverment run stations. Its not run in any
kind of shop. Second they have been busted many times for fraud so changes have been implemented to stop this and making a bribe today will land you in jail. So my question is, I have a 97 Gt. So I can swap legally a usdm 97 and higher? Jdm is out, right? Due to egr? Was the turbo mr2 made up to 99? If I just turbo my 5 will I fail a visual? Does the turbo add to smog? I'm doing my research now. I read that a member here failed visual and had to go home and remove his turbo. Maybe I should hold on to stock parts(oil pan, manifold, etc) Thanks ahead guys

You can change the intake manifold onto a usdm motor and still have the egr.

If you turbo your 5s... Well lets put it this way, in california any modifcations to your intake in general is illegal. If the smog shop checks, a cold air intake is illegal if it doesnt have a carb sticker. So in california, you can get failed for just having a cold air intake.

what are the chances of them forgetting to check the turbo manifold is a gamble you will have to take.

a turbo should not make you fail the sniffer. The turbo should not spool at the rpm they test at. So non of the engineing management systems should affect the exhaust readings at pre 3000 rpm.

if your laws are that strict, then turbo or swap will fail inspection. maybe look into selling you car for an mr2 or an alltrac.

doesnt the law still state that the motor has to be atleast 2 years newer than the car youre putting it into? and the last US 3sgtes were '95 in the mr2. hmmm anyway madmods whatever u do good luck man!

I think I heard, and thats from this website, that its got to be the same year or newer.
Im obd2. I might just follow Mannys footsteps, and just turbo the 5. I am moving into a 2 car garage and
recently bought me a van, so down time is not a factor any more.
I guess I'm tired of every idiot out here trying to race me. I usually don't if I know there going to smoke me!

a carb sticker? what the heck is a carb sticker? i've never had a smog test after putting in my sri. and i was even thinking about upraging to a cai. i don't have to go back to stock or what-not, do i?

Hey I just passed a smog in illinois with genIII 3s, but I dont know if i just got lucky because they didnt test for NOx... well i still got my cat in place

it depends on your smog stations, if they are nice they will most likely let you go with a intake. If they anal about it, a after market intake can make you fail.

carb stands for: California Air Resources Board.
