Bare with me guys...

Can our airbags deploy even if the entire steering/airbag is disconnected and out of your car? I mean can an impact to the uninstalled steering wheel set off the airbag? Or even better a change in pressurization? Static Electricity?

ive had a set of airbags from my eclipse under my bed for prolly close to two years now, so they have been through humid summer & dry winter, i worried about this for a while... but i dont even think of it really anymore

Really Batman? So what you are saying is that a disconnected airbag/steering wheel can go off even without the sensors?.... just force?

no, the airbag willnot go off unless one of its sensors is crushed/damged. The sensors also need to have Electricity flowing to them for the airbag to deploy. I guess if you tried hard enough u could get it to pop without it being connected but ud have a heck of a time doing it.

airbag = chemical reaction inside a bag. there is a condition for this reaction to happen, if this condition is met the caabooommm ! an airbag can be deployed by static ( this is unlikely but possible )

If the airbag receives an electric signal it will go off. It receives that signal in accidents where the sensor is impacted. So if you gave a signal, you can set it off.

the signal from the sensors releases potassium nitrate (don't quote me on that) into some form of sodium thats surrounding it. so if the airbag is in a situation where whatever seal is holding the potassium nitrate is broken the airbag could go off, so probably something like excessive heat or (like Batman said) throwing it against a wall a few times might [might] do it.

in other words, I don't really think you need to worry about it

those chemical are part of the airbag internal assambly, the electricity is used to start the reaction this chemical reaction produces Nitrogene at an speed of 200 KPH or MPH ( don't remember clearly )

I believe can not... Only "right" electric pulse can deploy it for sure... airbag it self is just piece of cloth wink.gif

that dangerour thing is (how I call it) "refill":

...and honestly, I hit that refill with hammer few times (didn't want to fit my new st. wheel biggrin.gif) and nothing wink.gif

here: someone maybe remember my 7th gen. celica st. wheel swap topic http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=44319, so believe me I acted with that few days really badly biggrin.gif

I have found new airbag systems makes own gas (so it's not refill with gas inside). It's "gas making inflator unit". Gas is made by chemical reaction which is started by electric pulse or by hight temperature. According this you may read what is on my inflator units (stock 7afe 6gen celi one + stock 7th gen celi one):

...that proves only current or heat can deploy airbag (not hammer biggrin.gif, pressure, wall or any other violence wink.gif).

my result: only way how deploy airbag outside car is throw it in fire accidentally biggrin.gif or by static electricity pulse.
