Well guys ive been saving my money up all winter for an engine swap and im getting close. I have saved up 1700 so im about 500 dollars short. I want to buy the sliver top engine but im not sure. I want something that ill be happy with as far as HP goes. Now im a novice driver with it come to driving fast cars. Im use to driving my slow 7afe around so I dont know what its like to be in or drive a fast car. The fastest car that I have driven was my sisters V6 MX3. My engine have over 200k miles and I know it will last a long time but I want something faster. Ive only heard one person complain about the performance of the sliver top. I orginally wanted a 4agze but after reading about it seems to be a real pain in the ass to manage but after reading about the sliver top I kinda like it. 5 valves per cylinder, individual throttle bodies seems pretty nice to me. I also plan to get upgraded pulleys and other things as well. Do you all think that I'll be happy with the sliver top? please give your honest opinion.

its gonna cost ya more, consider the ecu, tranny, etc etc. the little things to get the engine running right, ur gonna need something else if you wanna run the individual throttle bodies, a lot $ is needed for a complete swap, also consider labor costs if you pay someone else to swap it, you wanna talk to Dr. Tweak

and an v6 mx3? they're not that fast (130 hp), if its auto, its even slower...

Get the 4agze. Its supercharged. If u save up alil more u could get a 2nd gen. 3s which puts out about 225 or something right around there. But that swap would run u about 3k, i think. lol

not to hijack but would the 4age be more reliable for a DD that wants a HP increase? i mean the 7afe is just crazy slow. I was thinking about this swap as well, my engine is getting old, burning oil, and im not sure how much longer it's going to last. Besides the fact that I don't know all that much about cars and I don't think i would be able to maintain a 3s or the 4agze.

Just figured i'd ask questions in here instead of starting another thread Sorry Drew.

The silvertop is a great, low cost, good power and reliable n/a power for anyone who wants a decent upgrade. There's no reason a silvertop swap should run anyone more than $3500 INLCUDING labor, most of the time.

The blacktop costs a lot more then the silvertop does.

Oh, the blacktop is awesome, but it's more expensive and harder to find. But that's a good option too.

The blacktop also doesn't take to boost as well because it has lighter internals...those same lighter internals make it faster than the silvertop though.

I love my silvertop 4A-GE...a good amount of top-end power, really good throttle response, reliable, great mileage, etc.

I almost bought a Silvertop with an uncut harness for 700 bucks with an engine stand included. I was going to use my ST tranny and a trecel throttle cable and then do it all myself, but I need to save money right now, so I didn't buy it. I should have though...

Great so now my mind is made up. Im going to stick with the sliver top. If I get this do you think that I should use my stock tranny or the tranny that goes with it? Also should I be looking for a sliver top from out of certain car or are they all the same?

The question for me has always been silver top, 3rd gen 3sge, or 3rd gen 3sgte. I worry about hooking up with the 3sgte, and the wieght. I worry about not having enough power with the 4age. And I worry about finding parts for the 3sge. I think the 4age is a great motor with a lot of potential. There's a ton of parts out there for it. That's what attacts me the most to it. The over abundance of parts. And it weighs less than the 3sge and 3sgte. Good for solo runs, which is what I love. I love a quick NA motor, with a snappy turning car. But I've never had a high hp turbo car, so I might like that. I think you'll be more than happy with the 4age though. Plenty of motor for a new tuner.

I think a Silvertop would be great as an autocross motor. High revs and good higher end throttle response. Damn I wish I would have got that motor..

I love it all. I've been pretty lucky to have experienced first-hand alot of the fast cars that are on 6GC and elsewhere.

Stock for stock, the 2nd gen. 3SGTE feels about perfect to me...they have such a smooth, strong and consistant pull all the way to redline. However the 4AGE is also very quick in the Celica. It's a thing of beauty to hear an N/A motor scream up to above 8000 RPMS, and high end is where the silver top is in its element....however it doesnt just take off the way a 3SGTE does, but it's just as exciting to me.

I drove a supercharged MR2 with the 4AGZE which only has something like 145 HP in the US, but that is also a beautiful and very fun motor. It's nice because to me it still felt alot like a great NA motor but pulls itself beyond the typical lack of torque that you would find on some NA motors. Obviously the JDM motor will pull even more since output is a little over 170 HP.

Other NA and turbocharged cars ive driven have yielded the same conclusion....its all about what type of response and feel you want, and whether you value gas mileage and ease of maintainence much, and how fast you really want your car to be. Personally, I love both and its really hard to choose one motor when theres so many ways to make our cars quick.

his tranny will bolt up, and the kl03 out of a v6 mx3, mx6, 626, or ford probe has 160 hp, and the klze v6 has 200

with the silver top you could just buy the engine right? (for example with the 3sgte its better to buy a clip)

You need a wiring harness too, and other bits and pieces.
