ok i love my car, its great only 2 things that i dont like about the car in general its slow and the position of the cupholders, i mean with a 5 speed and a drink in there it makes shifting into a tricky game hand goes to the inside for 1st and 2nd then around it for the rest or over it but thats uncomfortable, did the guys at toyota run out of good ideas working on the "godly" gt4 and just slapped the cup holders in i guess it would be ok on a auto but come on

they designed the interior to wrap around the driver. not like some cars where you are just sitting at a desk. For this reason, the extra room for cup holders where left to the bad areas. that is my understanding.

Try owning a 5th gen celica where the cupholders are right under the radio, in font of the gear shift. I turned a Taco Bell cup upside down in that car once trying to go into 3rd gear. Not pretty.

i have it but it came with the car when i bought it. if you ask me its better for shifting cause you barely need to move your wrist and the shifter feels lower

eh, doesn't bother me all that much. cuz yeah, girlfriends are great cup holders lol. i'd much rather change my slow speed instead of the location of cup holders.

I don't like where they are either... so i took them out... cut a hole in the back of the arm rest, and put them there... so now drinks sit nicely on top of the hump in the center of the back seat... smile.gif

i had no problems with the cup holders in my 5th gen. although you can only fit 21 oz drinks or smaller. i usually don't cup the stick with my whole hand when i shift, i usually just palm it and push it from the bottom.

for the 6th gen however with a drink in the cup holder, i shift with my arm on the inside and reach around the drink to shift... or i'd just steer with my right and reach over and shift with my left. but with 2 drinks in place, my god i seriously can't imagine how somebody could ever drive that way for the sake of having 2 drinks.

I love our cupholders...it's nice how they hide away when you don't need them and aren't permanently in a visible spot like in a lot of cars.

And I rarely use mine as well.
