So I got a renewal notice yesterday and It said on the tag that my car weighed 2425 lbs. That was quite weird cause I thought the celi's always weighed more than 2800 Lbs. Anyways, its all good.

I can go down to the Dump around by me. I can fill up, and get on the scale and weigh it. That should give us the full fluid weight of the Celica.

Well they weight you when you come in with all the junk you want to dump, and then weigh you when you leave, and the difference in weight is calculated into a price, and i'm sure they want to take you for every bit they can, so I am going to say they are pretty accurate.

I checked the math, it's right. Full tank of gas would accordingly wiegh 87.75lbs or around 40kg. Average person is about 75-80kg, or 165-176lbs. So a full tank and person only puts you up 120kg, or 263.75 lbs. That actually is a good bit of wieght in a small car.

At first, I thought you were a bit off, but not after further thought. It's only about 4 quarts, at least on a 5sfe. There is right at 3 quarts of transmission fluid. The viscosity of oil and transmission fluid is about the same. You could round that to 2 gallons, so 11.7lbs if you use the same weight at fuel. I don't think petrol and oil weighs the same, but it's close. Also, the 3 quarts is more a manual 5s transmission. It probably is 5 quarts for a auto. But the auto weighs more due to mechanics too, so that all the more weight. Add another gallon for miscellaneous fluid; you've got another 5.85 pounds. Total is 105.3lbs of liquid in the car. I think the stock wheel is only 16-17lbs. But the tire would put it up to 30lbs. I think the wheel and tire would be considered in the dry weight of the vehicle. I think belts would be considered too, and if not, they only weigh a couple pounds all together max.

That has to be for the gt-4, and even then, that's high. That's about 3520lbs. That's working on big sedan wieght. I didn't think the Celica was real small, but it's not big. I would guess something like 2800-2900lbs for mine. But I'm just pulling that number out of the air.

Why is everyone always trying make these cars heavier than they are? Say it with me now, "CELICAS ARE LIGHT CARS!" They're lighter than an Integra, 240SX, Eclipse, etc. and even comparable to some of the heavier trim levels of Civic. Check here: http://autos.msn.com/home/used_research.as...=Home&pos=used1

The only heavy celica is the GT-4 which is somewhere around 3200lbs because of the AWD drivetrain. I think the perception of celicas as heavy comes from the fact that in the US, you are working with the 5sfe at best, which makes it feel heavier than it is.

Drop a Beams into your "heavy" celica and you will have similar power to weight as an Integra Type R (and only because the Type R is lightened from the factory, Otherwise the celica would own it.) Drop a 3sgte in there and you have the potential to make a fool out of anything on the streets.

So, PLEASE, stop with the "my celica is heavy" stuff. It just ain't true.

J.
