ok, so iam 17 and just got braces... frown.gif iam so pissed. most people get them when they are younger like 13 or so. iam the only one in my senior class with them and now they put this metal bar in my mouth and i cant even talk right!!! it sucks!!!! whats sucks the most is that my teeth are stright as can be too!!! only reason i needed them is because one tooth didnt come down when i was younger and they think it will mess up all the other if they dont attach a wire to it and pull it down. iam so pissed off....so...does any one else on here have them???

Ha, I own you all. I have had braces since I was 10 years old. I am 18 now.. count it out.. 8 years.

Edit: the metal bar is a "Permenant Spacer" pretty much what it does is stretches out your jaw so that they can get it to fit right with the other. Yes it does suck. Have they stuck the screwdriver into it yet? When I had mine I had a little tool that turned a dial inside it, which made it stretch it out even more.

Yeah I have some "Rare" condition called anterior openbite. What it is is that my back teeth don't touch together. they're close, but they want them perfect. Also I have a wierd bite where my upper jaw sits 2mm off in relation to my lower jaw so the edge of my top teeth hit on the middle of my bottom teeth on one side, and vis versa on the other.

they haven't said. Initally it was only 4 years, but then that became 5, 6,7,8 and soon to be 9. I haven't had to pay for the last 4 years of it, but they did make me go get my wisdom teeth out because they thought that might help, but it didn't do a thing. waist of 2K IMO. In all I believe I have around 10K in my mouth

I had the same problem you did street except my tooth was on the bottom. Had them in 2 years in highschool. went 5 years with a gap in my teeth and and a bracket showing under my gums on the tooth that didn't move. I didn't like having to wear a retainer all the time. Off for 5 b/c of the Marines, then had them for 2 more years in college, except only on the bottom that time.

dont feel bad man. My gf fell when she was a kid and put her top jaw through her bottom one. Shez had surgery and braces since she was about 5...shez almost 19 now and still has them top and bottom. Shez had hers for almost 14 years and she said its hard/weird at first but it gets better. She still has to wait another 2 or 3 years for them 2 come off.

Okay, I got braces when I was in 8th grade and finally got them off my senior year of high school. You try take your prom pic and senior portraits with braces. OMG embarassing. But yeah, i was only supposed to have them 2 years, but skipping appointments and stuff doesn't help. Oh yeah and when they say wear your damn rubberbands, they mean it. After a while, my orthodontist said, you wearing your rubberbands or what. And I said no, so hes like well, schedule another appointment and I'll just take them off. And he did, and my teeth were pretty straight. I got the lecture of wearing the retainer but I never did. 1 year later, teeth shifted, retainer doesn't fit, but my smile is still looking fine biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

wow i really lucked out, i only had them on for 9 months in 5th grade. i think when your older they need to be on longer because your teeth wont move as quick. i also lucked out i dont need to get my wisdom teeth pulled because i guess i have a long lower jaw. dont worry though, theyre not that bad, just dont play soccer with them on lol, i remember busting my upper lip with those damn things. but they will be off before you know it, and then its worth it. really, 18 months is nothing.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

I bet I'm the oldest with braces. I'm 21. My teeth were almost strate as well, but I had one tooth that kept getting hit when boxing. It was a snaggle tooth. After getting my lip ripped open a few too many times, I decided to get braces to fix it. They should be off at 22 though.

Don't feel bad. I'm 19 and I'm getting braces on my bottom teeth in a couple of months.. I'm thinking about getting invisiline on my top bc they're a little messed up.. not noticably.. but I'm insecure about it.

Invisalign=$$$$$

It might not be as expensive as they were when they first came out, but I knew two twin brothers who had invisalign and they said it was about 2500 for one upper. I hope that has gone down.

I'm 18 & had my braces for over 3 yrs. At first they said it would just be 2, who knows how much longer I'll have them. My teeth were almost straight to start out with, just a couple on the bottom werent.

I remember growing up I thought braces were sooooo cool! especially when you could alternate colors! but i was blessed with straight teeth so much that even my dentist assistant that just met me asked if i ever had braces cuz my teeth are so straight!

How long do people normally wear braces anyways?
