i was talking about fabricating or modifying the BRACKET for the caliper, not the disk or the lugs. i was looking for a cheap alternative to buying a brake kit for $700. i wanted the bigger disks for 75%looks as this is a daily driver. so thanks for the input. maybe i will try this mod when i get more money....but then i could probably buy a kit tongue.gif
by the way 99 and up pontiac grand ams are 5x100 and i know that for a FACT because i put my 17's on one

you don't get the point...just cause your rims fit doesn't mean the brakes will
and you can't use front rotors on the rear..

and why did you make an entirely new post? this isn't allowed by the "rules"

Sadly, the other got locked before it was settled. I want to settle it. I'm talking directly to you plyer. I didn't mean to irritate you so much. I would probably cost me more than $150 to make a big brake kit. But what I'm trying to say is that it might not. There could be a brake system out there that wouldn't be that hard to fabricate and make work. I didn't mean to attack you personally with my posts. At least I shouldn't have, although it seems pretty clear that I did. I would have said it no matter who posted it, so it was nothing against you. I just have a problem with people thinking you have to spend a lot of money. Look at urbandorks write up on the Accords intake modified to fit into a Celica. That's a lot cheaper than a Injen, and it most likely works better. There are things that you have to buy, but I just want more people to know what it's like to work with their hands and make things. I figured you would understand that with all the custom work you've done. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you make a part work, or make anything work. If we always leave it up to the Professionals, it keeps the innovations out of our hands. Again, I am sorry for the attack. I wanted to make it public so everyone could know what I was trying to say. I'll continue to try to not lash out and attack people. I was doing so well too. frown.gif

yea i know wat your talking about. its my bad for loosing my cool.

my point is things like brakes is a place where you don't want to be cheap. like for the fronts i'm currently working on the 7th gen compatability for conversion and upgrade to big brakes. BUT
with the rears we are pretty much stuck there due to the fact of the internal ebrake, caliper bracket..and a few other features its not sumthing you can just pick and chose really. and you don't wanna just grab some 1/2" thick steel drill it away and extend it out so you can slap your 6gc calipers on some grandam rotor..because its teh same bolt pattern. also front rotors on the rear? i mean just cause they share the same technical name doesn't mean they are the same they are VERY different. (assumed basic cars 101)

to properly get "big brake" rear brakes
you would HAVE to have a custom rotor made that would remain the same on the inside in order to allow for the ebrake system to properly function and then have a custom caliper/braket made to accept the larger rotor diameter and fully cover.
as well as the proper rotor depth to allow wheel, braket ect.. alignment and systems to function its not just as easy as pick and slap on...

I totally agree. I think they're could be an option out there that we all don't know about. But as far as big brakes go, you've got it right. I still think you might be able to yank the brakes off something else and put on there. It couldn't be fronts, and it couldn't be just any brakes. Even if I made it sound like you could just slap it on, that's not what I ment. I know there would be a lot of work to get it right. Average guy could never do it. If I ever get bigger wheels, I might just try a big brake rear. I'd rather get front first though, cause I don't think rears would do to much. All aside, I think weight reduction is the best brake upgrade. At least the best thing to help the car stop quicker. Heck, it's better for everything. Acceleration, handling, and braking. Not stability though.

It's one of those things that if you haff to ask, you shouldn't be trying. It's way off. Get some experiance doing some minor projects before you jump into this one.

Basically front brakes will not work on the read b/c of the parking brake components and other various parts

Yes you can swap the ST front for GT fronts need calipers, bracket and rotors. can also swap out the rear drum to GT disc. Look at teh HOW TO its there detailed.
