Hello I went to replace my spark plug wires on my 94 celica 2.2 liter and have found a problem between my chilton manual and how my spark plug wires were set up?
-The chilton manual states for 5s-fe engine 4-3-2-1 , now #4 cylinder is on the passenger side in their manual. -However on my car the #4 cylinder by the passenger side according to the chilton manual, was reversed and on the driver side, so on my car the cylinders went 1-2-3-4 with #4 being on the driver side, the exact opposite of the chilton manual, and the spark plug wires ran to the appropriate number on the distributor cap. -So is it possible to reverse the wiring and the car will run o.k. or did the chilton manual make a mistake??? -I am doing an overall tuneup on the car and will be doing timing so I, need to know what cylinder to time off of????? -Has anyone ran into this issue? What is the correct cylinder order??? THanks... |

i think you are confusing firing order with the numbers that are on your spark plug wires. firing order, just means the order the spark plugs fire in.... but dont pay any attention to this. just hook up your wires 1234 from left to right. do the same thing when looking at the distributor cap.
if you put the wires in the wrong order, the car will run funny. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Well I guess I am more concerned with wether the #4 cylinder should be the outside cylinder on the passenger side of the car or the driver side? Or is this irrelevant ?
Cylinders Passenger side car 1-2-3-4 driver side car or 4-3-2-1 -The chilton manual shows the second example above and my car is wired like the first. -I don't believe I should've used the term firing order. stand in front of the motor... and count from left to right. number 1 is passengers side and 4 is drivers

Firing order = 1-4, 2-3.
It goes from left to right from the pass. side to the drivers side. Seriously tho, it could be 4-1, 3-2 and it does not matter which one goes first such as the # 1 or the # 4 cylinder, cause both pistons come up at the same time. |

No. You forgot about fuel and air. They might both be comin up at the same time, but one is in the compression stage and the other is evacuating the exhaust gas. So- valve openings are different between the two. Injectors fire at different times as well. -------------------- |
