I am switching out pads and rotors and want to paint the calipers.

anyone tips? good paint, cleaning...

Man it is messed up here in canada... not that I am complaining, but the toyota rotors were cheaper than the no-name premium, and they came plated. Pads were only a little more but they don't make TRD for the back anymore.

thanks

I just painted mine.
I strongly suggest to sandblast your stuff before. I sandblasted my calipers on the cars, but I now recommand to take them off.....you won't shoot your discs and it will be more accessible. Anyway, it is way better to remove them to paint them...But what a mess....sandblasting..hummmmmmmm.....sand everywhere in your shorts and in your car and on the ground and..and..and....

I used engine enamel a few coats, then engine enamel clear a few coats..don't by shy with coating, at first I just put 3 coats, and then it started rusting after 1 week !!!
I think the clear helps a lot, it seems thickier...

Caliper paint can resist twice the temperature of the engine enamel, but it costs more...I didn't have any peeling nor rusting since( 1 month ? ).

Spray can, by the way...

There is surely better, but it worked for me.

Painted dark grey, like the superleggeras.
If you paint colored, hope for you you can wash your calipers through holes in your wheels...it gets pretty ugly with brake dust if you don't wash them often, at each car wash...

Yeah I found that same fact about Toyota rotors being cheaper than replacements, the funny thing is the dealer asked me which one I wanted, I was like Toyota duh? I currently have re-surfaced my front rotors on my ST 3 times, and and they are the ones that were on the car when I bought it used. So far 30,000 miles. The moron who had my car befor eme took it to some ****ty brake place, where they shoehorned some illfitting pads, which actually cracked after 5,000 miles, but did a number on the rotors. I also had a siexed front right caliper, which was taken apart and rebuilt, cheap kit a ton of labor to pay for.

You could get a paint kit it is a little more money but works better than engine paint because it comes with a hardener for the paint. A good brand for that is G2, just a suggestion.

Oh and by the way if you haven't gotten new rotors yet and are looking for performance ones don't buy the ones from rotormasters.com those people suck, irotors are good and they are pretty well priced. I just recently put on new cross-drilled / slotted rotors and painted my calipers it looks nice and repels crappy rust... stuff sure does like to rust here in good ol' new england.
