Yeah, you could do that. I know that in order to install a single din unit in a double din opening youre supposed to use a pocket filler, and that has a metal bracket on the back to mount the stereo and pocket. You could proably buy one and install both stereos on the adaptor, as long as you know how to wire the stereos to both work. Either that, or you could buy a double din unit online and have it shipped to Italy. Hope that helps. By the way, i love youre car

The bracket is found on a universal din-sized pocket you buy if you need to fill a second din space. Its not an original Toyota part. It looks something like this ---->din-sized pocket
The reason i mentioned the bracket was that you may be able to take out the plastic pocket and just use the metal frame part to mount both stereos, if this is the kind of mounting system thats in your car right now........If not, i would check to see how the existing stereo is mounted, and do the same on the bottom unit, or use the stereo you have now and see if you could mount it on bottom. If that works, you should be able to install both with one on top of the other. Im not an expert, so maybe somebody else knows for sure, but i hope that helps. I have an older blaupunkt system with a single CD headunit and a five disc in dash below. I think a tape deck is pointless, and I like the fact I don't have to open the trunk or put my hand under the seat to change a magazine of CD's.
