EZ way to tell if you have a short shifter? :P Options

How does one tell if they have a shortshifter installed or not?

I bought my car last fall and noticed it's been modified slightly by one of the previous owners.. ie, cat taken out, magnaflow exhaust put in, redded out tails.. so I'm looking at buying at 7th gen short shifter since there's so many positive reactions from it, but if there's one in there already, I don't want to waste my time/money.

I suppose the easiest way was if someone local would let me drive their celica or vice versa, and they know the part in their car, but is there another way?

I can get some pics if that helps, but with the shift boot in the way, it's not exactly easy to measure lengths and such.

I might've answered my own question but would like some verification.. for all you who put in the 7th gen short shifters, from what I've seen on ebay, all the shifters are one perfectly straight piece..

From looking at the "how-to" and the pic that is there, the stock shifters seem to have a "bend" in the middle, and I can feel that bend under my shift boot.. so that means I've got a stock one, right?

Easiest way is too check the guide for installing the twm short shifter. This will tell you how to get in there. Once your in there, check for the bushinges. If the bushings are solid and most likely a grey color, it's a short shifter. If they have a metal thing in the middle and a rubber washing this around it, it's stock. You can't put a short shifter in without the new bushings. That's the best way I know without a car to compare it too.

ACTUALLY the easiest way to tell is if there is a bend in the shifter right underneath the knob. If there is a bend then it is stock. If it is completely straight from the base to the knob then it is aftermarket. Also another way to know is if your knob comes incredibly close to the E-brake handle while in 1st.

That's weird.. I don't remember being around portage on Thurs... in fact , I was home all Thursday until 5 b4 I hit Montana's at St. V. Is there another silver 6gc around?.. hmmmm
