I blew the doors off of some grand national or something like that last night. It was for fun and from a roll on at about 10-15 mph. i took him by at least 6-8 cars in a matter of 10 seconds. My buddy Jack saw that whole thing from following us in his car and said he could not hear after it was over. We raced in a tunel and it was loud from what i was told....HAHA. Just some late night fun.
Oh, yeah it was in the MR2, I did not have the celica out this year yet. DG -------------------- |

QUOTE(brianforster @ Mar 11, 2006 - 3:03 PM) the 305 is like the 7afe of v8's No it's not. The 305 car be a great motor. I like them. They're smaller than the classic 350, but everything is almost idintical to it. Most parts are interchangable with them. I would have been really impressed if you beat a Grand National, those are always fast. The Monte Carloes car be really fast, but not so much in stock form. There really isn't a Toyota motor you can compare the 305 too. The closest thing I can compare it to is the 302 Ford, or the 304 AMC. All those motors have huge potential. I've heard that the 305 are better reving motors than the 350s, but I'm not sure if that's true. It doesn't really make sence to me. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

If it was a Monte, it was probably a carbed 305 (rated at something around 165 HP flywheel) and no contest for the MR2. The Monte's weren't anything to scream about, but once you drop a 406 Mouse motor in there, look out. If you beat a GN, good on ya. Those are like the american version of the Supra. TONS of potential.
Wanna race a V8 for pinks??? I got one for ya.......... Just funnin' man. -------------------- |

Grand Nationals are pretty fast, They kinda look like a monte carlo at a glance and when i posted the first post i could not remember what the heck the car i raced was so i just posted grand national?
I think my celica is actually a little faster than my mr2, but it cant get its lazy but out of the hole fast enough . my mr2 is the way to go if you want to race from a dead stop...if you want roll on from 10-15 i would actually wanted my celi cause if feels like it got more top end for some reason??? The spool up is super fast in the celi compared to the mr2 (dont ask me why cause i would have thought the mr2 should spool faster with shorted exhaust and shorter ic piping) so anyway the celi cant do much but spin the wheels in first gear while the mr takes a quick jump and is gone with minimal wheel spin. i would think the mr2 would be the faster car. back when i had my 5sfe, my buddy had an NA mr2. everytime we raced, he alwasy handed my ass to me. i would think that an mr2 with a jdm swap vs a celica with a jdm swap would give you the same results.

like i said... the mr2 gets off the line way better!
but for some crazy reason, i dont know why... my celi spools up way harder and pulls harder for a longer rpm range. maybe different gearing in the transmissions is a factor? the mr2 is my pic for the track and my celi is my fav for roll on challanges on the road. -------------------- |

The 305 is absolute garbage; my friend loves Chevy, has an 88 Camaro with a 305, and he'll be the first to admit it. I can take his car in a straight line with my barely modded GT. As for "better revving," the 305 redlines at 5k and is geared super-tall. Of course it doesn't need to rev a lot to generate its massive amounts of torque, but it's still a cruiser motor and not built for straight line speed at all. And Ford's 302 is in a whole other league; probably the best tuner engine in the world. Saying it's like the 305 is like saying the 7A-FE is like the 2JZ-GTE. |
