I have been wanting to get a larger intercooler for my car since the day I got it but there is the awkward metal bumber thing in the way. I have noticed some people have just cut it for the space with what im assuming was a metal jigsaw or something. Does that bar really do all that much and is it ok to slice it up so i can fit in a larger intercooler?

That is your crash bar. It helps to save your life in the event of a head-on collision. Cutting it destroys its structural integrity and defeats the purpose of it being there. Some people take that chance. Some people will just completely remove it. It's up to you.

Take yours off and copy it to steel. Fab one up with cutout in proper place and box it in for structural integrity. If you are afraid of losing this piece.?

Yes it is smaller and you will need the brackets for them part number for the crash bar is 52131-20220

somehow i dont think that crash bar will save ur life.. i think it is only made to withstand impacts of 8km/h...

Would you rather get in a crash with it or without it? its very thin, aluminum. its meant to protect your bumper form small parking accidents. not the type of thing that will save your life. the gt4 one is thinner, but you need the bar and the brackets. the brackets take at least a month or more to get in stock. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Don't forget that the crash bar also supports the rigidity of the front of the car.. It helps brace up the two "frame rails" that it attaches too. I know they aren't actual frame rails since its a unibody car, but that piece is part of the cars structural stability. You may not really noticed this with it on or off, but everything adds up in the end.

Ive seen it, and it still serves a purpose in holding the car together. My point is that it is a small peice that adds to the complete set-up |
