I purchased a H1 xenon conversion kit back in January from a group buy. I FINANLLY got around to starting the conversion this evening, only to find the light bulbs are not "plug and play" The JDM projector H1 bulbs came with a large black housing that the H1 plugs into, and allows the clamp on the projector to hold the buld tightly in place. The H1 HID I received have no such housing to hold the bulb in place. I attempted to clamp the bulb down with he progectors pring clip, but It can not put enough force on the bulb to keep it tight. I am sure I can't be the first one to run into this situation. I was considering drilling out the eboxy filled black plasic H1 (halogen) housing that came with the JDMs and attempt to remove all the metal contacts, and some how make it work with the new Xenon bulb, but I though I would check here first.

Advice, sujjestions or experience appreciated.

BTW... just got my car back from the shop... fixed the dreaded oil pump and crank seal gasket problems and got a custom 2.25 exhaust installed from the Cat back to include new flex, a 22" Magnaflow Resonator and a Magnaflow street series muffler... was quite inpressed with the low note and it's lack of "Rice"... and no more messy oil drip to boot!! Took advise from the board on that one too... Thx laugh.gif

You should cut off any stock connector and use the 2 wires from the stock harness and connect them to the H1 wiring. You dont use any OEM equipment and only need the power & ground wires. The "housing" your talking about confuses me. The bulb goes directly into the projector, no such housing is required.

Had the same problem with a friend of mines HID in projectors.
Some H1 HID kits don't fit on the Projectors. Its hard to believe but its true. There are 2 ways to put in the lamp. The flattened part of the round socket should be pointing downwards or Down-left/right.
Hard to explain have my pics at hand.

I understand what both are stating. THe problem that I am experiencing is not electircal. THe problem is that the H1 Xenon is just the bulb on th H1 frams, however, it does not have the ability to fit a connector from the Haogen as shown below. There is no obvious way to secure it. Below is a pic of the entire haolgen assembly. The Xenon bulb has everything up to the silver base, but none of the black plastic that is used to secure the bulb or seal the light ...

IIRC you can pull out the silver part and seperate it from the black housing. Then you can put the HID into the black housing.

That is what I thought too, but the HID bulb has special wiring and plugs that connect to the HVstarter. It does not have the required spade connector insalled on the base of the H1 that would make this possible.

Strange!?! Contact the shop where you got the part from. It should have the entire part so you can clamp it secure with the spring.

that IS H1. Common on H1 and H7, there is a supporting base for the globe to fit.

Here's a tip... use the rubber grommet that came on the end of your HID globe, cut it to size and use that as the spacer. Or, use the cap of a Coke bottle... smile.gif

I've done enough HID installs to know. and it works. Probably wouldn't really recommend the Coke bottle thing... but use the rubber grommet.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm encountering the same kind of problem.

Won't the HID generate enough heat to melt that rubber spacer?

HIDs generate less heat than halogen globes wink.gif
