Trying to figure out what you would need to do to get a car ready for the race track, like what features/addons you would need.
I know weight is the biggest part of getting a car ready, so getting rid of things like car stereo system and interior moldings. I heard you need a roll cage too, so what else would I need to do to the car to get it ready for the race track This post has been edited by coustoe: May 30, 2003 - 3:06 PM |

wait are you getting a roll cage or getting rid of it? That guy is selling an ST205 roll cage - that would be really cool just to have but if ur racing it'd just be a good idea.
Think about tires - racing slicks - very important. Brakes. If your going all out with racing take out everything like seats, and shizit like that. Besides that i dunno. -------------------- |

first thing u want to see what class u will be racing in, different class require different safty equip.
like here as long as ur under like 100MPH in the 1/4 all u need is a helmet. thats means u can completely gut ur car to save wieght. once u get over 100mph hour here i think u need 5 point racing harness and a toll cage. so check ur local track rules first befor u realy do anything to ur car. and slicks do help a lot, but i dont know how much they help in a FWD car. just my 2 cents hope it helps |

maybe I'm missing something but by "race track racing" do you mean the 1/4 mile or an actual course? I was assuming you meant auto-x or something but seems like everyone else is talkin bout the quarter.

okay, well first check the requirements of what league(s) you are going to race in! some are more stringant than others, SCCA solo just requires a street legal car and a helmet, while other SCCA series require a mininum style of roll cage among other safetly devices. and the one on Ebay is a bolt togeather, while most SCCA series require Weld togeather cages. other sanctions like NASA hold higher restrictions, such as side impact door beams cannot be removed, and certain things must remain stock. other than that though its all about how much time your willing to invest, we spent approx 2 weeks removing the sound deadening/foam material from the frame on the MRT mustang and just that slimmed it down an estimated 30-35 LBS.

ya, I have to work with the port customs agents and the NHTSA. The thing is there is only ONE guy at NHTSA that takes care of Vehicle Importation and reviews exemption applications.
Hes the perfect bureacrat, every time I call him he never give me the info I need, he just rambles on and on like a prerecorded tape, I eventually have to tell him to shut up, so i can get him to the point of the call, its really frustrating, and this is the same dweeb that will be reviewing my exemption applications! |

okay im gonna tell the NHTSA guy that the car is racing in SCCA solo has the following features:
smaller gas tank gut interior lighter wheels no a/c system take out battery (start the car then un hook it and take it out) power steering windshield washer fluid and wipers fiberglass body panels no audio system If theres anything else thats pretty simple to do that should be added to this list please add you comments. I'm going to fill out the application and send some generic stripped GT4 and supra pics and see what he says. |

well, if you import it under that exemption, you can't ever drive it on the street. you can't even drive it to the track, you have to trailer it. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300
