Just wondering, but why is it that such a nice car and promising platform as the 6GC is that the aftermarket seems to completely deny it's existence. I mean you search anywhere and there's a gap in parts availability from 1994 to 1999. Anyone care to offer some insight?

as much as it sucks its a good thing, u dont see chrome tail lights running around as much, i rarely see a 6gc on the road to, and i never ran into one hooked up cept for rims and exhaust.. so i guess its cause there arent that many, also i have only seen 1 other 6gc in like 50 shows..

To be honest. I dont mind it either. Our cars speak for themselves without a massive aftermarket. If we had it then we would be no different and wouldnt turn heads.

Because the 6GC isn't much of a promising platform.

i bet back in the 90's there was plenty of aftermarket support for the 6gc... but now that its a new year and a new generation the support has died and product lines have been discontinued to keep up with the new stuff

Maybe the some of the aftermarket stuff werent selling so well so they stopped it. Like the RIPP supercharger kit for the 5sfe. But what other aftermarket stuff are you looking for. I've found that it might be hard to source stuff, but they are there. The parts database we have, cover most if not all the parts we could ever want. The only thing i don't like is that practically no one makes clear turns for the 94-95 bumper, that said, that bumper style was only made two years, so that is why it is not produced by procarparts etc...

Yeah, I like not having our cars done like the hondas and acuras, but still, you wish to see one a little more often.

Well, I figured at the least we'd have a slew of brake and suspension options out there, but there's really not a lot. It's a shame too. Had Toyota offered these cars with some power from the factory (thing 3S-GTE) in the states the aftermarket would probably be HUGE still.

there just wasnt a demand for such aftermarket support. toyota dosent really want aftermarket support and people werent really into it as much as they are now... i see a celica at LEAST twice EVERY DAY. weve got great cars but nobody really hooks them up because toyota dosent have much foresight and made a lame attempt with scion...

Macs are Linux (now) !
There were a bit more suspension and exhaust components available in the past, but as said earlier, the Celica was not meant to be a performance car. It was designed to have great handling and be ultra reliable. Just look at the Supra and MR2 - both cars have far more aftermarket support because they are sports cars. Even the All-Trac wasn't meant to be a sports car - Toyota didn't even bother to give it a BOV. The other factor is price. The 6GC Celica's were over $20K new. My All-Trac cost almost twice as much as a Civic and about $3k more then a 5.0 Mustang convertable. Those that could afford the car and could afford to modify it would just buy a Supra. Toyota also engineered the 5S motor for a good balance of performance and reliability - there aren't too many 'legal' modifications you can do to really increase power and maintain driveability. Whereas Honda's are generally able to get decent power increases due to the factory level of detuning. Just the amount of dampers to quite the Honda motors is pretty amazing. When I worked at AP, Honda was the only company to complain about the loudness of the squeek the clutch actuator makes when being depressed (rubber moving against plastic - its going to squeek). The engine noise from every other manufacture made the squeek inaudible, but not the Hondas! -------------------- Scott
