well ive decided to take the least walked path and i wanna experiment with nitrous oxide now before some of you get your torches and pitchforks and want to throw me under the bus lol biggrin.gif i want to try this because ive decided it might be fun if i take my time and do things right the first time ive looked over almost every thread on the subject but.....

i cant seem to find one resounding answer like what i would like to know from you guys is what will i need i believe a full mainence on the engine is a must so i can check for any potential problems and fix them i heard to run n20 headers would help and so would a full catback which i plan to get both of thoes anyway...Would an Air/Fuel controller help too? because i plan i getting one of thoes next time i have money anyway they just look so cool and i can adjust my ratio to perfection too and fix any of my idle problems

i keep hearing about 1 step colder plugs but i wouldn't be using the nitrous all the time mostly at the track so would they hurt my car if i kept the bottle shut most of the time. Im also gonna get a purge system because i heard it was a lot safer and it looks alot cooler im only thinking about maby a 35shot because that dosent seem like it would hurt too much but just asking how high could i go on basically stock 5sfe except for aforementioned upgrades with 117k miles on it just want a lil zip and the ability to yell at the top of my lungs NAWS at W.O.T lol laugh.gif but i know there is some nitrous experts on here so i need you guys help to basically list all the things i would need to run a safe effective set up.

not to start knocking on your idea, but if you're doing something to the car because " it looks cool " you have a lot of reading to do. a air/fuel gauge looks cool, and is not necessarily a wideband. a 35 shot of nitrous may not seem too harmful but with poor tuning you can blow the engine with less than that. as you already posted N20 is a least walked path so not much info available on posts.

to help you get started, the first thing you should do before anything is a compression test. based on the results you make your next move.

well you cant exactly see nitrous so no i wouldnt be doing it to look "cool" with a air/fuel controller i can monitor as well as tune my engine with it or so they say looks is just an added bonus a compression test sounds good this is my way of FI considering all other options are not good for me anyway and this would be a good learning tool as well since not many others have done it im as serious as any about this matter so please refrain from reading some lines about an as you call it air fuel gauge and making judgement that im doing this for stupid reasons or that im some idiot im here to learn just like most anyone else but i am also up to suggestion like everyone else thats a pretty big assumption to make and that was a mistake this is a machine not a game and this is my option but thank you very much for the advice

its not off topic, if you dont follow grammar, it will be hard to read, and some ppl that have knowledge wont post cuz they are annoyed.

Exactly! laugh.gif

The most experienced and educated members of the board will just skip over what you wrote because it is so hard to understand. If you don't know how to use grammar and have poor communication skills, you will have problems throughout your life. Put together a nice coherent question and you will get nice coherent answers. In other words, show respect when you are asking somebody to help you. smile.gif

ahh whatever, nvm close this topic down i kinda expected this because after all forums are group mentality. My grammar wasn't even bothered with until i defended myself for getting something for "looks".No one ever said anything about the original post, we aren't in school and i come on here to relax so im not going to bother long typing everything. It can be read but its just a stupid arguing point, so thats why people point it out the minute there is an uncomfortable air in the thread. Its the fuel to the fire, I have posted on here before the topic didn't turn negative with judgmental bs so there was no need for grammar correction to be pointed out. There was never any disrespect in my original post but when someone is trying to talk down on me because they didn't read my post right then i get defensive so never mind ill get my info from somewhere else sorry to waste all of you guys time.

no one is trying to offend you we are just trying to point out that typing like this makes things hard to read the idea of any forum is to be able to communicate your question thought or opinion to the masses basic grammar helps a lot with this we are not asking for perfect spelling just basic punctuation to help read what you are trying to say it might make sense to you to just keep typing like this but you have to realize that your not communicating your thoughts clearly when you just keep typing with zero punctuation see what i mean?

ok but i still understood you or maby thats just me i got it on the first read through. Either way there was no real point in these last couple of wasted posts what if someone else decides to look up n20? What are they gonna get but a page or so of 3 on 1 flaming? Nobody wins in an internet arguement i mean would anyone really feel like the better man? If any of you need it that much i will easily submit and declare you victors....but if not then cease the foolishness get off your high horses and pluck your brains otherwise let this thread die like everyother N20 related thread in the FI forums

n2o 5sfe...

get a wet kit
make sure everything is up to spec (full tune up)
(and most importantly the usually ignored fuel filter)

a 35 shot is too small... start with a 50 shot, and work up to a 75 shot....

You need 1 step colder plugs, in copper (don't use platinum or iridium), and it's possibly best to use a slightly reduced plug gap...
make sure your timing is set to stock (10* BTDC) or possibly retard it by 2* if you are running a 75 shot
You don't need any intake side upgrades (the nitrous will take care of intake flow)
Do get a header and a full header back exhaust
Don't skimp on the safety aspect, you need a window switch, an air fuel safety switch and a WOT switch, plus an arming switch to make it a safe setup
purge is optional (And looks cool i guess)
never spray on anything less than 93 octane

If your clutch is old, your clutch may die on your first spray (if you don't have a window switch, the car may just rev up through redline, hit fuel cut and blow the motor...this is why a window switch is essencial).

never spray 5th gear, or spray longer than 15 seconds.

edit: no need for a fuel controller, if you want ot tune it, do it on a dyno, at a fixed bottle pressure (get a pressure regulated bottle heater) and use nitrous/fuel jets to tune the mixture...

make the line between the nitrous solenoid and the nitrous nozzle twice as long as the fuel line from the nitrous solenoid to the nitrous solenoid (so if the kit comes with 15" lines for both fuel and n2o, either get a 7" line for fuel or a 30" line for n2o) ... this will eliminate a 'lean' spot on nitrous activation...

edit2: you're auto... get your auto tranny flushed and auto filter replaced... you may want to switch to synthetic tranny fluid... and you need to get (or make sure you have) an oil cooler on your transmission before you start spraying... tranny coolers for autos are like clutch upgrades for manuals...

that's it , if you have more questions, ask...
